I own a 16mm color kinescope of the first 5:37 of this broadcast, and am thrilled to learn, just now, that the color tape exists. This is absolutely marvelous. Thank you for posting this special, which first aired on PBS in 1972. BRAVO!! ENCORE!!

The voice is in its absolute prime! The top notes so glorious! Staging is of course a bit stilted at such close quarters but it is wonderful to have a record (even if heavily cut) of her in this fantastic comic role. The Australian opera performance (1986) was a bit late; it is a real shame that the 1983 Met performance wasn't preserved on film. Remedios went on to become a famous Wagnerian - but why didn't he have a go at the 9 high Cs aria?

Wrong Remedios! The one who became a Wagnerian tenor was ALBERTO Remedios. This one, with a far lighter voice, is Ramon Remedios. The point of these films were to preserve Sutherland in her prime in some of her great roles, all in a half hour. Nobody much cared if they didn't get to hear this tenor in "Pour mon ame". If we had had that aria, we would have lost a few minutes of Joan!
