Honestly, this game tickled my neurons just right. There's no real objective, just some fluffy stories put together in a messed up, but cohesive world, all expressed in a nifty art style and with surprising depth and eloquence. It reminds me of late-90s to early 2000s freeware and internet digital art, it has that same artistic spirit.

The art style and writing reminds me a lot of the old zines amateur artists used to make and leave at comic stores and such (maybe they still do, I don't know). Considering the many references to zines in the game itself, I take it's not a coincidence.

I don't think this is a new take by any means, but I really enjoy the way Vinny gets into basically voice acting every character in games like this. He doesn't just read the dialogue but makes each character distinct and gives them different voices and inflections and goes along with their reactions. It's a small thing but it's seeing him getting invested in the characters and story that gets me invested too. It's one thing when we all know what Mario characters more or less sound like anyway, but doing it for weird little indie titles like this is always a lot of fun. I always get a kick out of it

Instead of questioning what this and that they immediately skip to opinion on the matter with no shock from situation that just happened. Because of this, reader is more in shock like someone who noticed something obvious, but everyone else act like nothing happened.

These games and this developer really understand what an indiviual's experience looks like, trying to understand the logic of modernized culture and its societal machinations while also accepting it as something you are inherently attached to and participating in. I never made any zines but I used to be quite connected to those kinds of circles...so many movies and gatherings where everyone was going to their dead end job the next day, every other person some sort of societal reject trying to make sense of their place amidst everything, myself included... These games in particular evoke memories of "vibes" that the cultural world in a miasmatic spiral of nonstop, chaotic, psychopathic horror as it carries forward in our human conception of time towards "progress". Human depravity knows only the bounds of one's ability to imagine and all that. Anyway I hope the developer can find their way out from where they are, if its anything like where I was. From what it seems like their view could look like given these games and their presence...it could be a labyrinthian intellectual exit to get to a better part of reality. Especially alone.

hm... Voice of the Killer is 100% with zero exaggeration the crappy alienating call center I found soul-crushing work at while trying to maintain motivation to work on art (inc. zines), Hands of the Killer is a metaphor for resale of nostalgic aesthetics & concepts in online (and other) media in order to satiate the often impenetrable whims of the modern attention economy followed by a spot-on satire of arts college, Drool of the Killer seems to take the "poolrooms" / liminal space type concept as an example of a massively popular "thing" spreading its influence throughout the young person's attention-economy and the bizarre nature of modern advertising in an age of freaky novelty-horror concepts aimed at kids (etc) and the sometimes unsanitary-seeming nature of said concepts (Spiderman / Elsa videos are like an unchlorinated pool in some way, yeah?), Blood of the Killer reminds me of all the increasingly abandoned / withering, dying small town type places these days and the bizarre desperation of those tied to once-profitable but now dead industry, Ears of the Killer is a wild romp through the world of niche subgenres of media and the cyclical / arbitrary ebb & flow of subcultures / counterculture (which seem so important and meaningful at the time) etc. The whole thing as an extremely relatable nightmare, how it feels to grow up & come to grips with a world where technological acceleration has vastly outpaced social and cultural and humanistic capacities and barrels headlong into bizarre and unfamiliar economic systems primarily owned by a tiny circle of the ultra-mega-wealthy while the vast majority struggles and slaughters each other over scraps of niche attention/micro-gig money/micro-cultural status. "The Killer" metaphor seems rooted in the concept of criminality and creativity being intrinsically sourced from one in the same energy, the libidinal source by which inner forces come to reshape the outer world

I read it in my head in David Tibet's voice and it has a similar cadence and verbage to the lyrics on that. I went into this expecting another quirky but kinda pointless walking simulator from the QT dev (thought this was that developer judging from the artstyle until Vinny revealed it was the Goblet Grotto / Space Funeral dev) and was completely blown away by how unexpectedly GOOD the writing is. The way the game accustomizes you to the scene changing at the drop of a hat because of quirky shenanigans... before Drool Of The Killer does it again *but this time it's because you're being brainwashed by Tammy's chemicals and you're losing track of time* was genuinely freaky. The wording here makes it clear a LOT of time has passed between scene transitions ("the others tell me to lead her away since I'm the fastest", "I'm trying to find a vending machine that hasn't already been picked clean", knowledge about how the pipe system works, etc) And I might be reading too much into this but there seems to be a theme of like... connection between the economy and death? The first killing is at BB's new workplace, the college only studies murder, and Tammy became "dedicated to customer satisfaction" after being drowned. Surprisingly fitting metaphor.

Adore this series, I can't tell if it's just goofy ideas or if my own strange interpretation is correct. [Spoilers/rant below] The Killer is an apotheosis, a thing that is discussed and elevated to a deific force that has in turn influenced the behavior of others. Those who witness the actual crimes they associate with The Killer. To give a historical example, the Axe man of New Orleans is a killer who was never caught, thing is, the reason why he was never caught might be because “he” was more than one person taking advantage of the local public transport. Drool presents a drowning death that leads to the spirit of the deceased…being inspired to open a water park? It’s the first instance of this idea of a building being roughly repurposed, all the desks and computers and paperwork of the insurance company are still there. In Voice there's a cult in a office building, it's unclear how the company makes money. Voice has a tongue in the ocean beaconing people into the sea, Ears features something coming from the sea to inspire a music movement that is short lived and ends with a wave swallowing up a revival festival. Then several instances of her finding a cult built around a explanation for a conspiracy, a musical act that came and went like a wave, and a resort town where they try to play matchmaker. Each time it’s an issue that’s trying create an explanation for a situation that goes off the rails. The cult of explaining how X thing happened. Then the last game chronologically released, there’s so many people trying to burrow down and find the truth. But all they find is older versions of the city stacked on top of each other. Each one, particularly, being like a museum or carnival ride version of itself. Not the real thing but the story that people tell themselves about it. This is the biggest thing that stood out to me the first time around, this throwaway joke that she pays rent by selling retro merch they literally find discarded in the hallways in their ancient and decrepit apartment complex, but, here's the thing, they keep finding them, there always seems to be more hallways than anyone remembers. The business is selling people an idea of the past, that's a commercialized post-facto product. People have an idea of what the past was, prefer it to the present, and are willing to pay for even the cheapest, most mass produced iconography that evokes it. In Eyes, BB runs from someone through a crowded room asking for help and people think it's part of theatre, the REAL thing is seen as fake because the expectations of the public are set by the THEATRICAL. Flesh explores the idea of art as a form of immortality, the artist creating the idealization of the present that will be referenced by the past, with the Killer setting the fire in Blood that replaces the material truth with the lore that serves it's interests. There's a lot of Bird and Mask iconography I still haven't integrated but there really seems to be a theme of the past only being remembered as pantomime that serves the present age. Really fascinating series.

This game is just... lovely. Art style, sense of humour, murder mystery. Sometimes it's long winded, other times it's amusingly blunt. And usually I'm not the type of person to get attached to characters in an indie game, but weirdly enough these protagonists appealed to me in a way I can't explain. They're so endearing, it might be their personality and the attitude they bring to their surroundings. Such a great wild vibe, it sucked me right in like I wanted to be there with them in all the insanity. Hate to say it but this feels a bit fandom worthy.

I agree 100% but oh god _please_ don't let this actually garner a _fandom._ Fans, sure, a fanbase, sure, but no fandoms--so many great projects, indie or otherwise, have been washed into the internet gutter because of modern "fandom culture," this dev's work deserves a better community than that :[

@@MasterSquirrel993 And that's why I say it so reluctantly lol. Sadly it's inevitably part of becoming a quirky online phenomenon that turns on a few switches in people. Once bitten by the bug, it invades their bloodstream in no time to the point of strong possessiveness and obscene indulgence. _Mental._

@@Hammi4Real It really is a shame. On one hand, I'd _love_ to see more projects like this get attention from a broader, mainstream audience! But then... well, I think of what happened to The Amazing Digital Circus, and... *...pain* ^_^;

Honestly, this series is a visual masterpiece. It's like nothing I've ever seen and it's unafraid of pushing boundaries.

The very last thing I would have expected was Dendygar to make a surprise return cameo after how many years. Man, that was a deep-cut, Crypt Worlds feels like a lifetime ago.

TheCatamites and Samanthuel aka Splendidland formed a lot of what I like in games. I am very happy they are still making stuff and Bin is playing it. Space Funeral is a classic stream for me.

I was sleepy af the day i watched this, i was in and out seeing this, it was so surreal, seeing it a second time is slightly less anxiety inducing, now it's a more coherent fever dream rather than a coffee/alcohol/LSD cocktail from the 69th dimension when i first saw it half asleep

I have to applaude you, while very enjoyable, listening to and parsing all of the text and info from this game was actually mentally taxing, I can imagine that reading and voicing each character was an order of magnitude moreso.

This game is so good! I really hope you play the other games in it, on stream or not. They are just as good as the ones you played through (though Ears might still be my favorite), and they tie the experience together super well. Either way, super glad to have seen you give attention to this one.
