If you're making a shepherd's/cottage pie, here's a little trick for y'alls at home: when you've laid down the layer of mashed potatoes atop the filling, drag the tines of a fork across the surface until it is covered in furrows, resembling a ploughed field or the crinkle-cut surface of Ruffles. This helps ensure that the surface of the mash has a firm, ridged, crispy texture, adding an extra dimension of texture to the dish. I'm no Jamie Oliver myself, but I know this little trick. It is one of the things that makes Mum's shepherd's pie (and cottage pie) especially good. Especially since she uses carrots instead of peas, 'cause I can't stand the majority of peas and beans.
@hyperon_ion94235 ай бұрын
My family’s recipe uses green beans, which mix well with the potatoes.

@@JacobKinsley When do you season it? I season the ground beef with Italian an Seasoned salt when I brown it before hand, and that's usually the only seasoning.
@GmodPlusWoW5 ай бұрын
@@JacobKinsley @hyperon_ion9423 If we're gonna be swapping recipes here, I remember Mum adding just the right amount of Dulcet's "Peppery Moroccan Ketchup" to the meat as part of the recipe. I reckon you could get a similar result with a healthy dose of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce (we tend to pronounce it "wüster" over here, a'la Jeeves and Wooster). Though of course, the quality of the meat itself can also be a deciding factor in the flavour. As for the mash, you might need to add a little butter and pepper. Not too much, of course, since too much butter would make it a soggy mess, and too much pepper would overwhelm all the other flavours.
@ericforsyth4 ай бұрын
@@JacobKinsley Don't make it watery, for starters? Like a bolognese, it's not supposed to be runny -- it's almost more of a paste or emulsion. Also, use fresh herbs, worcestershire sauce, stock, tomato paste, etc. and taste test every step of the way (as with anything). Obviously reduce so it's not runny. Make a fluffier mash to begin with and it shouldn't possibly be getting dry from adding some cheese and giving it a nice crust.

Also, frozen *meals* are usually repulsive not for their frozen nature, but for the awful preparations of flavors, low quality of meat (which is a whole other story than produce), and the abundance of sugar and/or sodium to compensate the lack of rich flavors. @scarymeunster90954 ай бұрын
@@gnerus1972I don’t think this is about Walmart being inherently bad as much as being infamous for their terrible quality and dependence on excessive marketing and accessibility over decent product or facility standards. Walmart is the quintessential “American superstore on every 5 blocks”. They sell basically everything and most of it is either a brand that is in every other store or the store brand that is made in the same facility as the name brands but is marginally worse and made slightly cheaper. They have locations so close together most places would deem it a legally questionable act, and they mostly get by purely on the merit of having everything in one place, even if those things aren’t made well. Having clips of Gordon smashing shit interwoven in the review video is just wonderful *chef's kiss*

I feel like seeing Gordon Ramsay's face on a microwave meal box is some sort of omen

It's funny because even before the clip I heard beef and was like "well, it's not shepherd's pie then, is it?"

About a third of the way into the video, I glanced at Gnorts and realized the orange light reflecting in his eyes make him look like he's staring at us and I couldn't unsee it. The squinting confirmed it and now I'm kinda afraid of Gnorts. Also I want a Vinesauce cooking apron- wait, VINNY show us how you make Shepherd's Pie!

If you stare long enough into the -cottage- shepherd's pie... the Vinny stares back. -but sheesh this thumbnail really is kind of unnerving though-

I'd like to point out that the "shepard's pie" by gordan ramsay is actually a cottage pie since it contains ground beef instead of ground lamb.

I doubt Gnorts stomach is strong enough to handle the slop, I wish you luck when he goes to the bathroom and unleash a coat of paint if any was ingested.

I was eating the free microwave meal my family got from the local church community. And the taste reminded me of this video. If anything, the cats got a good mash and assuage meal.
