Usually FOSS projects survive by with donations or grants (or Patreon and similar), not by directly selling themselves as a product like Windows et al. AFAIK Canonical only charged for the shipping costs at that time so in that case it made some sense IMO

The GPL still lets developers earn profits from software, literally the only thing it doesn't allow is to not distribute the source code and taking away users' freedom, and I assume it does the former since most people are guaranteed to not distribute the source code of something you're selling. Technically it's also ok to call it a Windows bootleg since it does infringe on Windows's copyrights and it was sold but details.

Having only had played Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing otherwise for "racer w/ weapons", this immediately became an addiction for a hot minute... until I found Twisted Metal anyway. I didn't need the racing parts, and we eventually had the "Burnout" series for carnage racer
