I don't know what's gotten into Valve these past few years but they've been WAY more open about stuff and actually doing things with their games. We finally got the long last "Free TV's" demo from them that was considered lost media and we get workshop support for HL2, we could possibly see mods like the Vinesauce Halloween/Christmas Maps and stuff like that on the workshop. Half Life fans are starting to eat decently after being famished for over a decade.

Half life Alyx happened, Valve got kinda ashamed of talking about half life after they lost their timing in making HL3, but Half life Alyx was a soft reboot for the franchise and for valve in general so now they are much more open about half life and other projects because they are actually working on games again.

One reason I'll always prefer retail HL2s vibe to the beta is how subtle it is in comparison. Everyones still going about their day, the trains still run etc. Its not in your face as much as the beta of how dark and griddy everything is.

I'm surprised Vinny didn't know anything about Project Borealis. I've been following that project for a long time because I think an effort to make HL2 EP3 is awesome. It definitely looks and feels like it has the HL vibe to me, so I was surprised people were saying it feels weird. It's visually really, really cool looking. As long as it has all the HL style elements and gameplay I don't see why it wouldn't fit right in. Really hoping he plays the final product, cuz my PC definitely can't run it lol.

I think if project Borealis really wants to continue using unreal but also wants to fit things closer to being Source Engine feel-y they should take a look at what VotV does to make unreal feel like source because for the longest time while playing that, I genuinely thought it was made with source.
