People in this comment section really don't get the plot of this art project, it's not about how hard it is to live in this city, it's about the misfits, people without a direction in life, without hope. That's why it takes place at night, the time when all the drunkards and other sort of people thrive, because they fear the daylight. The light makes them remember the responsibilities they abandoned, it makes them sick seeing all of others who have a purpose ib their walk, those who work and go forward in life, while they are stranded in their uncertainty, drinking, smoking and taking drugs just to feel something other than regret of their own failure. That's why there is this conversation with the taxi driver. It's really not about the place and situation, it's about how you view it.
@Gidon14710 ай бұрын
I think it's very bold to not be the artist of an art project and at the same time claim to be the only one understanding an art project. Art makes people feel a certain way, and everyone feels differently. There are places in the world that actually exist and are represented in this game a 100%. There are people in this comment section who resonate entirely with that game because they live in such places. The game is not only about you or me, and I think the artist did a great job of pointing at that.

On the serious note. I think alot of people don't understand, that when Vinny or others play games like this from other countries, they're meant to be exagurations (and sometimes have symbolism, like this one) of reality. Yeah, sure, Eastern Europe has alot of places like this because of the collapse of USSR, but saying, that's how everything looks there, is like saying, that Bum simulator, or a redneck treasure hunter game represent the whole of USA. It's based on reality, but it's not entirely real.

There will always be someone, who'd want to give into "shaming" of some particular group, and someone, who'd love to be "shamed" for that, because of whatever reason they have to hate that particular part of their life. 30:30 I mean when looking at it from the perspective of a post Soviet Union Russia, I'd imagine with it's transition to capitalism would mean less care put into these lower-class areas that maybe once worked at now defunct government buildings. Quoting the IMF library: "The transition to a market economy in Russia has reduced most people’s real incomes, especially the incomes of the poor. The sharp decline in output and the manifold increases in prices have taken their heaviest toll on the more vulnerable segments of the population-the elderly or disabled, unemployed workers, workers receiving delayed or partial wages, and families with many children (Table 13.1). Cash income for many of these groups is below the estimated subsistence level." Without that same inculcated desire to acquire capital at all costs present in the U.S. since its inception (and resulting self-hatred for not having capital), a lot of Russians are more aware of their lack of social mobility (given their more class-aware history) and accept their situation. Even when the Soviet Union was in a position of power, they were more focused on subsistence as a rising country rather than happiness, the most losses of any country during WWII (19 million civilians and 27 million total do to germany's hatred of slavs and desire to expunge them) and with heavy sanctions from NATO and general mismanagement of resources they could never reasonably get past the point of providing subsistence. When someone lives in Gaza by contrast it's so indescribably horrific that you can do nothing but try to survive, and as such, you don't get a chance to focus on anything but survival. Whereas in somewhere like a Russian slum, there's still some safety-nets left over, especially housing, but there isn't much else to do since the jobs are gone. And when one is in such a position they can do nothing but think, and when you don't do anything but think, all you can think about is your own thoughts, something that will inevitably lead you spiralling into depression. But I don't know

The final taxist monologue felt a little too on the nose when the game's environments were conveying that more than well enough, but other than that it captured the feel of a post-soviet shithole splendidly.

Almost every single Russian has a summer countryhouse with a vegetable/fruit garden. So - yes, these are saplings for whatever can be further planted grow in temperate Russia (anything up to peaches; they tend to be quite capricious in that climate). It is also widely believed that saplings grow better under the purple light.
