I've found that progression over and over across multiple games in UFO 50, and it's great to see others experience the same thing. It's the game's secret sauce - demanding the attention and curiosity of the player and expertly rewarding them in return. das game design baybeeeee
@Tinlion093 күн бұрын
A lot of the skill-based games in UFO 50 have that effect. You just keep throwing yourself at a brick wall, and eventually, you break it. You'll break _yourself_ a few times, but it's all part of the fun.

I fully believe the universal rule for Party House is if you start with 2 troublemakers you ALWAYS end it, because in my experience 99% of the time the very next guest will be trouble. Look how many times it happened to Vinny.

I was going to post something like this. I tried cherrying it for so long with no luck, then read something on reddit about never pushing your luck and you'll always have enough time. Played one endless run with that in mind, instant cherry. You could have maximum hippies and cute dogs and just the base trouble makers. If you get two troubles, it will *always* be a trouble maker and none of your trouble-cancelling guests. Especially if it's that unwashed cretin in blue & black with the doll cheeks.

The potion strength in Magic Garden does more than affect your score, it changes how long it lasts and which enemies it can kill Red gives you the least amount of time and only lets you kill Blue Oppys (slimes) Green is second weakest, it lasts longer than the red potion but can still only kill Oppys Blue lasts as long as the red potion but can kill both Oppys and Mushrooms Gold lasts the longest and can kill both Oppys and Mushrooms, plus it multiplies the score you gain from killing enemies by x3 instead of the usual x2 Also be careful that you don't block a Blue Oppy with your chain when its about to move, it will pick a random direction instead of the place where it looks and it can catch you off guard (you can see it happen at 39:31).

I really liked all the intricacies of the risk-vs-reward mechanics in Magic Garden but it kinda fell flat once I realized gold potions spawns an extra Oppy which speeds up both your scoring potential and makes going for a clear less risky (the more pink oppies are on the board, the less chance all of them are in giant enemy clusters that are risky to get into) so they're basically objectively the best choice. Still, the game having a finite amount of oppies to save and then the game just ends adds a lot of depth to scoring runs, it's not enough to just "play good for longer", you can only reach the cherry score by taking risks and engaging with all the mechanics.

So basically, what he's doing during the buying phase is adding cards to his deck. When he opens the door, that's drawing a card. Some cards have abilities, some cards have passive effects. But if you have three cards with Xs (without things that increase the number of Xs you can get), you lose the round, and don't score for the round. You can end the round early if you think you won't make it, so you can still score. Pop is popularity, the yellow score, and is used to buy cards. Cash is the green score, and is used to buy additional spaces to place cards each round, increasing your potential score.
@spockhozzer72074 күн бұрын

@the_fur_nace4 күн бұрын
In Party House you have a deck of guests from which you can draw by letting them come in. Guests produce a set amount of pop(ularity points) and money if they are present at the end of the day - that is, when the house is full or you manually end it. Some guests have special effects (some negative, some positive), like troublemakers: if you have too troublemakers, the cops will show up, making you lose the earnings of that day. Sometimes you'll have to choose between letting more guests come in while running the risk of getting the cops and wasting a day, or to play it safe and end the party early. At the end of each day, you can use your pop and money to expand your house and deck, and to obtain guests with different abilities that you can combo / synergize to make more pop and money. The objective is to have 4 star characters at your party at once before the day counter reaches 0. These characters are pretty expensive, and some of them even have negative effects. Therefore, the main game loop consists of drawing cards to generate pop and money while avoiding getting the cops. Then spending the money and pop to buy house upgrades and guests to make even more pop and money. Repeat for a certain amount of days until you have a good enough deck to consistently generate pop to buy 4 star characters, and a big enough house to fit all those characters in. Then you only have to manage to draw the 4 star characters simultaneously in one day before you run out of time, and that's how you win.

Regarding the remake talk around the 2 hour mark SQEX *is* putting out mid-budget remakes which Vinny has either forgotten about (stuff like Trials of Mana) or ignored like the recent and frankly quite excellent Romancing SaGa 2. Although I loved them both I had more fun and a longer play time over all with RS2 than with DQ3 and for a lot less money at that.
