He finished 96 world cup on a high. But he was in and out of the team during his final months of career as quality replacements was not there. Then "Dada" came. There was a lot of noise at that time, because Ganguly's family was highly influential and Kambli was replaced by Ganguly for the England Tour even after a good world cup. Then Ganguly replied by hitting consecutive centuries in England that was the end of the Vinod Kambli. Don't know Whether you believe it or not, Initially Sanjay Manjrekar was compared with Gavaskar. He even Scored a double century against mighty Pakistan pace bowling attack in Pakistan. When he got run out, Imran Khan said to reporters there is no other way to get this man out. Where he is now ? Controversial commentator ? Hype means nothing.

People say Kambli was a victim but he was given several chances for a comeback in ODI matches. Test matches it was difficult for him to get back in with dravid and ganguly arriving. He failed to capitalise on those chances managing just 2 fifties, one against zimbawe and one against pakistan. His fielding and fitness was also questionable.

@@_user_not_found007 agreed ..and besides you cannot compare batting average of a player with 17 matches with another player with 200 matches. It just does not make much sense. for example, Kamble made a century in his debut so after 1 match his batting average was 100+ which is even greater than Don Bradman (99.4). so after playing debut, if he had left cricket his average would have been greatest of all time . which definitely would not have made him all time greatest batsman.
