The microwave hack = put the citrus fruit in boiling water for a minute. My mother did that in the years before microwaves. Sharon, I have never been able to make pastry worth beans. Now that I have finally retired from work, darn it, I am going to learn to do it, because my husband loves pies of all sorts - meat pies, vegetable pies, fruits pies - you name it, if I wrap a crust around it, he'll like it more!

Nice tip with the lemon 🍋 Next time your spreading jam have cup of boiling water to dip your spoon in to it will make the jam spread easier . Keep them coming Guys .

Sharon and ? um? Martin? Please correct me if I get any of these ingredients wrong! (I do this sort of thing when I watch Mary Berry's videos, and you guys are just as good, and though I really love that posh lady, I love you two, also - besides, everytime I watch one of her videos, she's got some tool or other which I don't have available.) Short pastry: 4 oz flour, 2 oz margarine, pinch of salt Spread on top of the pastry: 2 Tablespoons Jam Filling: 2 oz plain flour, 2 oz margarine, 2 oz sugar, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1 egg, juice of 1/2 lemon.

Excellent - more for you then!! Only thing is I used to find the Almond nuts were very acidic - or it might have been that icing coating that Mr Kipling put on the top - My late Mum used to make Bakewell without the icing on top - hot from the oven (no micro waves back then) and with garden grown raspberry's - happy days them was - Jam tomorrow was a real-life statement in the 70's
