I used to work on car audio in the 70s. That was one of my favorites. It used a lot of the same circuitry that the super units had, as far as the preamp and tape player circuits

If I were you,,I just convert it in Bluetooth,,,connect a stereo preamp to input,,it's in the volume control,,or just use input in tapehead audio,modify some resistors and tantallum cap for proper sound,
