Vintage 80s Mall! - Somerset Mall, Somerset Kentucky

This mall has been well maintained. Amazingly, it is still an active mall at a time when most malls in the U.S. have been abandoned, bulldozed, or repurposed. You don't hear much about Somerset, Kentucky. My paternal family goes back many generations in Pulaski County and Rockcastle County Kentucky.

It was a shopping mall when I seen it years ago that had carpet on the floor. Very unusual watch Star Trek generations in the movie theater in 1994. Kentucky and Somerset is just a state in a place you can love from a distance..

I grew up in Pulaski County. I went to Ferguson Elementary for Kindergarten while they were building the new Southern Elementary. My class won the PTA membership drive and got to be the first class in the new school, which happens to be right behind the new Somerset Mall. I must have been in either first or second grade when the whole school came out to watch a skydiver land on the roof during the grand opening. Whenever the principal couldn't be found, he was probably looking for kids skipping class at The Pirate's Cove (arcade). My older sister and I used to walk over after school and hang out before meeting our mom for dinner at Taco Casa. Sometimes we'd watch a movie at the theater next door after dinner. Wow, I'm old!

Great video! This mall is kind of forgotten in my list of malls that I still need to go to eventually. But those Kentucky malls look absolutely awesome! I wish I got to make it out to the Towne Square Mall in Owensboro before it closed, that mall looked awesome!

Somerset was definitely awesome. Not quite dead yet but not stable either. I hope it sticks around!

Born and raised here! This Mall was such a huge part of my teen years. It's so sad to see it in the shape it's in. We rarely go there anymore. I enjoyed your video. Thank you!!

As a person who lives there nowadays on the weekends there so many people there I wish there was still stores open I’m 14 when I went there at 6 there was a vintage games store

I live about 25 miles from this mall. I've lived here since 2012 and I have never been to the mall. Once we were going to eat at the restaurant ( can't remember the name) . I think it was to early. But that was even before I moved here full time. It looks nice lol

The movie theater used to be so pretty, they had murals everywhere. My favorite one was a wizard of oz one. I’m so sad they painted over it :(

When the Somerset ky mall first opened up, didn't the movie theater in that mall start out having only 2 screens? And didn't it have a different name?

You know it really don't make sense. For some reason Bowling Green Kentucky's mall is still booming. It's about the same as it was when I went there as a child. It hasn't been phased by the internet one bit. But this mall you're showing the video you can tell there's nobody in it and the other Mall i used to go to in Owensboro has been shut down. I still can't figure out how Bowling Green mall is still doing good. I mean it's just 30 minutes or so from Nashville. people can go there instead, but bg greenwood mall still is very active.

Bowling green is a bigger city so there will be more people who go to it

@@jamestreviss yea thats true but owensboro used to be 3 rd most populated city in Kentucky but now it's 4th. Bowling Green is 3rd now. That mall closed down in Owensboro ky. So it can't be only just population. Sure there's other factors. At least there's some malls still left to go to. Thanks for commenting have a good day.

@@nicktraughber6312 well I said 30 minutes or so so I knew it was more than 30 minutes but yes you are right an hour and 4 minutes according to Google. As you can tell I haven't been to Nashville much.
