The player is Japanese and originally was for a baby doll, which is why it's pink. Other Palitoy products had the same style player inside (Dr Who K9 etc)

I was wondering about the thought behind that. It seemed kinda creepy to see its innards "flesh" colored. Clever repurposing.

Love how 50+ years ago the likes of palitoy were preceding things the mini disk by saying “ we need this toy to talk - how about we use tiny records “

A guy i became friends with many years back (by the name of Pal Of Toys) had several videos up on how to fix these, but i think he became a bit disgruntled about his channel not going how he wanted, and he quit KZbin. Unfortunately, when he did this, he deleted his channel along with all those helpful videos, so i'm extremely happy to finally have a guide to help me with repairing the one i have, i'm pretty sure i'll have no problems getting mine going now. Cheers Dave 👍

I really loved this! I've never seen one of these backpacks, but the record looks to be the same kind of record playing device that's in the Kenner Star Wars Imperial Troop Transporter. You found the problem, did the surgery, and had these radios back up in working order in no time, Dave! Thanks for sharing such a vintage, cool original toy with us! I particularly liked this video, because it's not a toy that I'd seen before.

Tech like this (and the KITT car record that sounded when the license plate was pressed) are still impressive all these years later, but at the time they were positively sci-fi come to life to me. I wonder if a custom record with alternate sounds & saying could be done?

What a great repair! I remember the Steve Austin pack had a radio with a little earphone. This seems way cooler. New stickers look amazing, too. Great video! Thanks!!

The Steve Austin set was a crystal radio which should have been able to pick up actual AM radio stations by adjusting the little antenna. Mine never worked but the backpack looked great.

These look like they are made by the same company that made the talking alarm works for Janex toys in the early 70's. I fix tons, should be an easy fix. :)

We had to fix the talking mechanism in the Kenner's Knight Rider voice car, and that one was the same colour as yours. I guess they've used talking motors originally made for dolls.

If I remember rightly a similar unit was used in the mid-70s version of the astronaught. (In awhite casing) so don't be too suprised if you find discs that mention "lunar rovers" and Oxygen supplies".🤣

Great video ^_^ I was secretly hoping for a crossover with KZbinr Techmoan as it’s a small record player. He recently made a video about The Mighty Tiny Record Player that looked somewhat similar in construction and he also lives in the UK.

Very cool video Dave. I just did a similar repair to a 1979 imperial troop transport. Slightly different make up, but same basic record player. Made new contacts for one side, and spun the motor free. O have a 12" Mork from Ork figure that hase a pull string back pack. Works, but not quite right. Thats going to be my next venture. So Lord willing. I'll have as good a luck with it too. Not sure if anyone has any info on this figure or not. If so feel free to chime in. Lol dave as always thank you sir for what you do. I never realised there were so many same, but different versions of these players. Pretty neat bit of engineering.

Exactly the same Talking Unit was used in the Board Game ‘Horror House’ by Action GT. from the mid eighties. That was the great thing years ago; they kept mechanisms and such pretty much the same, didn’t keep modifying and changing something for the sake of it which made things easy to repair - they all worked well, and they just adapted with the use of different Mini Records - depending on the toy.

Fantastic video, this is going to be a super helpful reference in the future. I'm fascinated by these mechanical talking mechanisms, they're basically all made by the same company - Ozen. Used in lots of Japanese dolls and vinyl robot toys, the Action Man stuff, and even the Kenner Star Wars Imperial Troop Tansport! I've been able to repair a Troop Transport with a very similar mechanism, would have loved to have this vid at the time. I've got a pullstring one in a Japanese vinyl figure that I've never been able to get quite right.

Uncanny as I'm currently working on one of these. Mine has a dead motor though and finding a good replacement for a discontinued Mabuchi RE14 motor that doesnt run too fast has been tricky. Great tip about the spring though. Its a pretty magical device when you think about it.

Really liked your intro to this video 👍👍!! Was any of it true? Were collecters trying to stop you? I would imagine that toy repair, restoration and customizing have been around for as long as toys were? This is seriously blowing my mind!! I've spent most of my life working in the bar and club industry. 20+ years as a night club/battle D.J. So I'm really interested in finding this and seeing what could be done with them. Possibly do a battle set using these?! 🤔🤔 What about using Goo-Gone or something else instead of lighter fluid to remove the stickers? I used lots of times to remove anything with adhesive attached to something and it also removes any adhesive that might be left on the surface.
@TeflonDave
@TeflonDave Жыл бұрын
I've used Goof Off (which happens to come in lighter-fluid-like cans) and it's occasionally melted some plastic I was working on. I'd test it somewhere inconspicuous if I was working on a vintage toy.

Another great video TP! Always neat to see you bring those toys back to life after being dead for probably 40 years! Two questions: plastic welding is that with the Tamiya thin cement melting old plastic or using a heat source to melt it? And for your intro you mention forums not liking restored toys, has that changed at all or is there still a faction of purist that don’t like restorations?
@toypolloi
@toypolloi Жыл бұрын
Plastic weld fuses certain plastics together. As far as I am aware I am still banned from some forums. I don't bother checking.
