My uncle just gave me this same drill that he and my grandpa used for years. Came with the case and manual, as well as a bunch of bits. Thanks for the video, I might get the drill up and running today.

Very cool! Yeah this thing is a beast.

Do you upload these very rare instruction manuals somewhere ?

That was really fun to watch. Looking forward to see it cleaned, and reassembled. Good thing you got the schematic paper.

I have an aeg roto hammer that's even larger than that. Old too, possibly older than yours is. It was my grandpas now all his tools are mine. Never used it but recently had a neighbor ask to borrow it to drill holes to add rebar for support on a project. All the bits i have are longer and have splines at the base of the shaft and a little notch on the shaft to lock into place. I'll have to research what model I have.

thanks for your side note. I have been using balistol for years on many difrent occasion but never thought of cleaning the toolhandles with it. Had some pretty gunged up wera kraftform handels and now they are almost as new🖒
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
I too have been using them on handles and it works great for cleaning oil and grease. You would think that using an oil to remove another oil wouldn't work, but it does in this case.

Great and fun vid.... why there aren't any more ?

Really awesome teardown! man that thing is dirty though!
@GermanToolReviews8 жыл бұрын
Yeah it sure did make a mess. Don't know what type of grease that is but it was very difficult to remove.
@jameslandes60108 жыл бұрын
German Tool Reviews probably molybdenum grease, especially if it was black and felt like it had particles

Most likely, the Bosch SDS patent was effective whem AEG built the BH 25. Moreover, SDS might not have been able to support enough torque for the largest drill bit in the BH 25. During that time were a lot of different systems for rotary hammers around. I own several AEG PHE 20 rotary hammers from the early 1990s. They already use SDS (maybe under a Bosch license) but are better built then comparable Bosch machines. But you must not buy the models with multi purpose chuck. BTW 42 V electrical tools are used in areas were there cord is likely to be damaged or in wet climates. The primary idea is the avoid the hazard of electrical shocks. Moreover 42 V is a perfect theft protection. I work in a steel mill where a lot of 42 V hand tools are used.

The washers in the back look like *belleville washers* (kinda spring) and I think, they act as counter force of the main hammer spring or for dampening the spring power. Great reviews. Greetings from germany :)
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the insight! I did measure those spring washers when I did a 3D model of the tool (see part 2). They were definitely not a standard size, or they had been stretched to the point where they were non-standard. There is a DIN standard for these (DIN 2093), but this washer was quite a bit thicker/taller than the equivalent size in the DIN standard.
@hermannschaefer47774 жыл бұрын
Yes, they act like a spring. In the schematic they are called "Tellerfedern" - literally "plate springs" aka disc springs aka Belleville washers.

About the Joran brand: Joran Bor (drill) company was sold to American Tools Compagni, who again sold it to Irwin Industrials Tools. The factory in Thisted with 95 employees, was finally closed in July 2007, when the production was moved to China. I am pretty sure that the original Joran tools, is of good quality.
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information, yeah they do seem to be pretty good quality. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can get a chance to put some of them to the test.
@aspedersen17 жыл бұрын
Cool...let us know if they are any good. :)

That depth gauge is not the original I believe, Bosch ships those with some of their drills.
@TheLexiconDevils6 жыл бұрын
Looks generic. I’ve had several from a variety of brands. Also this particular drill having being sold in America they would have substituted it for a metric one?

What year was this made? Is this really a BOSCH re-brand?
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
Probably from the early 1970s. Eventually this model became the BH-25S (S for Super). I have a 1974 catalog on the website that only lists the BH-25S. I don't think it would have been a Bosch rebrand. I don't know of any collaboration between the two companies since they were competitors at the time.

What kind of bits would I ask for to buy for this?I just got one & need bits for it.
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
It uses a proprietary shank system. You would probably need to find an adapter, like the one at 00:50. There are several companies that still sell these adapters, if you search for "AEG BH25 Adapter" a few come up. Here is one I found: www.bamanufacturing.com/pataeg.html

Always touch the tool with the top of your hand never the palm. If it is live it will throw your hand away rather than contract your muscles and make your hand grab the tool
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
You mean the metal case for the situation that it is not grounded/hot? Yeah, it would probably give a little sting, it is only 115 60hz. The worse type of shock I've had is at 400Hz, it really does bite you.

In Australia we have 240 volts and it will kill you. My brother was electrocuted 3 mths ago and died instantly. love what you are doing with your vids, prompted me to go out and buy the bits I needed to fix my Makita 2708 table saw, just finished it
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about your brother. Yeah power tool restoration is definitely something that people can get into without investing a lot of money. Some people just give away their broken power tools.

I have a few things that came from my Dad. He was responsible for tools for TELECOM here in Australia. He only ever bought BOSCH, Metabo, ELU, and Makita as a last resort. I am about to start on my Bosch single speed hammer drill, big heavy brute of a thing. Are you in the states?
