In all honesty, yes. Many of my past journal entries (that I didn't record/photograph) include my thoughts on politics, social justice, and other "controversial" subject matters, but this is the first entry that I've read aloud on my youtube channel. Recently I decided to use every tool I've got to amplify the message and that means also using my platform-even if it means coming under scrutiny and inviting trolls. I am now more true to myself and my values than ever before.

Maleah Lock I also wonder why the question was posed. It takes a lot of time and energy for me to produce any video on my channel... so why would I go thru all that effort for something I don’t believe in? 🤔🤨 it can’t be for popularity because journaling is already a popular subject on KZbin so I could have just done something “neutral.” It can’t be to boost my energy because dealing with trolls and political comments is absolutely soul-sucking. It’s a valid question if you’re wary of performative allyship though 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ll let the viewer be the judge of that 💁🏻‍♀️

@@SaricaStudio I am in no way doubting your sincerity, as I know you chose your content very intentionally, but rather the passage had a strange "voice" (literary sense) to it that wasn't typical to your narration style. I wondered if maybe it may have been edited/pre-scripted to be less touchy, or maybe that it was trying to be performatively supportive. I don't think you would be performative, but its a weird time. My question was really trying to ask, are you changing how you would write to yourself bc we are present? Please don't! We love the genuine you!! Cool using your platform :)

Mikaela Ritter ahh gotcha. Yes, I had a script for this video! (I usually have a script, or an outline at the very least.) Since the subject was more serious I felt the need to clarify my thoughts by writing it out. As I do more journaling videos about justice I think I’ll be able to switch to an outline and it would be more conversational. Thanks for the honest feedback! 💖

Hi Sarica, I’ve been following you for a while now in here and on Instagram. I wanna thank you for being open about your struggle with mental health and how vocal you are in using your platform and injustice. It just amazes me to know that one of my favorite journal artists just right off slap people with the truth instead of just denying that “everything is calm and fine and we can all be better by simply drawing flowers in our journals”. I suffer from several mental problems too and I’m not in medication although therapy had helped me greatly but my recent relapse took away my ability to journal so when you say that you haven’t been journaling and that’s why you focus more on painting, I felt that. Painting and drawing have been a help for me to go through relapses as opposed to journaling and your little sketchbook project is motivating me. So thank you for that too. I definitely have been enjoying the painting videos you’ve put so far. Anyway, much gratitude to all the hard work you put as an artist. Thank you.

And stating your thoughts and feelings so openly on what really matters in the world right now and in your personal life, it takes courage. We need more of this openess. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this. You are not alone. We can make the world a better place where we can be open with each other and share what we have and need.

whew! what a breath of fresh air. i just found your page, and the first video i watched was your "last video of 2020" where you thanked people for staying around after changing something. i did't know what it was til i found this video soon after. i'm so glad to find a journaler who talks about systemic issues instead of pretending everything is fine or trying to "stay neutral". i don't have a channel myself, but i do journal and do social justice work and i'm just so thankful to have found you. thank you. sending love from the west coast

This is the first time I have been on your channel and I was blown away by your honesty and integrity!! I am right there with you in exploring all these issues. You have renewed my faith that there are people out there willing to share themselves in a way that will affect other's lives. It's a brave thing to do and most don't want to do this due to the current vitriolic climate online. You have a nice writing style and expression of your thoughts. Thank you so much. I subscribed to your channel because of this video. It is so refreshing to see this type of vulnerability and I am looking forward to more "journal with me videos".

Well done! I’m holding space for your openness and vulnerability. As a poet, I know how scary this can be. But I have learned - over two decades of sharing - that my most personal stories are the ones that touch people the most. Also, the most specifically I share, the more universal the appeal, the wider the reach of my words. So keep sharing, being mindful to go at your own pace. I love your channel and your artistry - it’s wonderful to experience more of who you magnificently are. ❤️

I truly love your journaling videos they are very inspiring as someone who journals! I wanted to express that journal reading is very beneficial in many different ways, it is an exercise practiced where I go to school as it shows the vulnerability of the person. The way that we use this is in complete silence in a circle and anyone can read any part of their reading honouring their words. I wanted to say I was very proud of you for sharing your journal and you should continue to share (not specifically to KZbin) with your loved ones as a tool to learn how to sequence and express your thoughts! Well done:)

I missed these videos a lot. Love the aesthetic but also love the top is you talk about. One thing resonated with me: "it's OK to be vulnerable if it helps others". I'm not in a good place right now, my mind is like... all over the place and I've been having more mental breakdowns lately but I think it will help me to write it in my journal. Thank you for reminding me that writing is a way of making myself feel better, more grounded.

Hi, I love your videos and also products (I’ve done a order with you). You are one of the YTers that inspire me with vintage touches. However you are the only one that also inspires me as someone who loves to write and journal. Many don’t even seem to leave enough room to write. Many people also don’t want to journal because they say their life is boring. I say journal your thoughts and how you feel about what is happening in the world today. I also have generalized anxiety and I’ve struggled a bit since entering menopause. I recognize the signs as it is similar to how the every six months birth control (in the arm insertion) used to affect me. So I go to therapy and have returned to paper and creativity as part of my coping and reflection. Thank you so much for everything you do. I also read the other comment about your narration and voice. I say you are not obligated to any of us to share, it is up to you. Also as a fellow journaler your reading verbatim or from a script after you’ve done the writing ahead of time is completely fine. This is obviously not free form brain dump writing like morning pages so I would expect you to have worked out your thoughts and words ahead of time with editing. I appreciated hearing exactly what you wrote. I also used to blog and taking the time to craft my message was appreciated by my readers. That was part of what I was offering.

I wish more people would click on this video, watch it till the end and absorb all the things you have said. If someone finds fault in this video, that just proves they're triggered by something they've done wrong but refused to acknowledge it. Acknowledging one's flaws is the first step to becoming a better human being. And accepting that vulnerability and sensitivity are just parts of one's compassion and humanity is going to give you a better understanding about how to be kind to people. Even though many of the topics you touched on in this video are sensitive and will of course bring on many arguments, it isn't wrong to feel the need to speak up and bring awareness to what should be done and should be seen. People have been going on for so long denying the truth and withdrawing themselves from things they consider taboos. It's now time to stop turning away and start looking right into the problems and solving it together. Thank you for sharing a part of you that you don't have to, not at all. I appreciate the fact that you were willing to let down your guard and be vulnerable to us for the sake of educating and helping others to reach a better world. This is a beautiful video as always. Lots of love💞🦔
