I started journaling as a kid when my Sunday School teacher encouraged us to submit our journals every week so that they can know us better. Fast forward late teen years, I believed that habit of journaling sowed in me as a kid helped me with my depression (collateral damage of being in a broken family). I'm a Christian, so I found that writing my prayers to God helped me to actually pray. Cause praying "in my heart" or out loud (monologue) always ends up with me daydreaming. Writing my prayers down like writing letters to God truly helps me to stay focused and connected with Him. Since I've started working, I also have fun collecting different stationery to make my journal pretty and lively. It is VERY FUN!

I have always kept a written journal, but during this pandemic, it became too depressing and I wanted to brighten it up. I started with Washi tape and instantly I was hooked. Now I love the mix of writing and collage and color. The collage I find really helps me actually process my feelings without lots of discussion. I love your calm beautiful journals. Thanks for sharing a part of your world.

Hi Meg, I love what you wrote about collage helping you process your feelings without discussion. My mum is a psychologist, and she says it’s a bit of a myth that you always have to talk about everything in order to feel better or cope. I think these kind of mindful, non verbal activities are incredibly soothing and centring. For me I think it’s being taken out of the thinking and worrying part of my mind. It’s also very peaceful. I’m glad you get so much out of it as well as, I’m sure, making something beautiful for yourself. 😊❤️

I started journaling a few years ago when I was going through a deep depression, I started it to remind myself of all the good times I was having and put in memories of that year, it started like that but then I got more creative with it. I am happy to say I have been feeling better now and I do have down days but I am much healthier and happier now. I think that journaling was a big part of that.

I couldn’t have said how therapeutic journaling is for people coping with anxiety/depression myself. I work Monday-Friday 40 hours a week and I cherish my weekends where I can spend time for myself working in my journal or just creating ANYTHING. With some good music I am all set with crafting. It’s my happy place. Not a lot of people understand that that is what truly helps me center myself. I’m so glad to know that you have the same feelings. Thank you so much for sharing!

I quit creative journaling for several months now because I got too absorbed in creating aesthetic spreads for my journaling social media account on Instagram, but this video just gave me the inspiration I needed to pick up my Traveler's notebook again! I have been really indecisive about how I wanted to use it, and it didn't occur to me that I could use it as an art journal!

i started bullet journalling in august last year and it was very minimalistic. but as the pandemic hit, i started spiralling down and i used to watch your videos where even in your bujo you did layering and stamps and scrap paper and i loved how that looked. so i started art journalling. the entire process, right from collecting scrap paper, stationary, old stamps, tickets, to deciding the layout, the trial and error, everything tbh, really helped me to take my mind off the negativity in my head. sitting down with my thoughts, crafting and layering, really helped with my anxiety as you said.

I love to see how creative people can be. On Instagram. On KZbin. People from all over the world create the most beautiful spreads. It's inspiring. I just started journaling a year or so ago and I began with a bullet journal, but I found I was not a good planner. So I discovered junk journaling and the Hobonichi world, and it's so enjoyable to create a collage and write a bit of my thoughts down in a beautiful environment on the page. And I agree is addictive and wonderful to collect stationery. Again, people are so creative, selling their creations on Etsy and websites. It's nice to see so many individuals from all over the world sharing in a common interest.

Ever since I watch your videos, it inspires me and gave me reason for me to release my inner thoughts and feelings. I work in health field, so it can get really stressful esp during this time. So journaling was really helpful for me to destress and just relax. Thank you again and keep up the good work.

i started journaling when i was little. just making collages of memories and pasting random things that i find beautiful. back then, i didn’t know that it was called ‘art journaling’. i create art journals to express what i feel at the moment, there are times that it looks messy but at the end of the day the important thing is that i made something out of my feelings. btw, i really love your works, it feels so cozy ✨

I really love to art journal as well. I like to add my doodles and incorporate stickers into my spreads. I agree that even the when pages do not turn out well, I still find joy in creating them. I journal because it is away to express my creativity in a low pressure setting and I like to complete things. I also enjoy watching other create spreads too. If two people had similar supplies, the spread created are completely different. Cute spreads! Keep it up! 🤗

I keep a diary and a bullet journal for which I use separate notebooks. I started journaling as a child and because at school we had to write the date in red and the rest of the text in blue, I just copied that into my journal. Twenty years later and I still use the same format. Ever since I started my bullet journal I've been thinking of incorporating lettering, washitape, colours etc. into my personal diary, but I didn't really know how. Thanks to you I think I finally found a way. Than you so much for sharing your creative process!

I use mine as a place for reflection, jotting notes, collecting and pasting in new washi tapes and stickers.. I’ve tried doing separate journal for different things, but it’s been really hard so I work in one Traveler’s insert at a time 😅 also a stationary hoarder, so completely understand that joy and happiness when we’re able to get new items!!

I very recently started journaling because I wanted to keep notes of what happened during my days, both the good and bad. Because I'm dealing with a lot of difficulties now along with depression it seems good to be able to do self reflection and hopefully eventually look back on it when I'm in a better period and learn from it. Other than that the relaxing aspect is important too, but my primary reason to start was missing something to be creative with. I used to bulletjournal several years back and I really missed doing something like that.

just a few months ago i discovered your you tube, along with other sites. What happened to me was incredible! i was so happy to know there are so many others that love paper, pens, writing. I thought i was different because of the passion and excitement i get when i see pens, or beautiful paper or the tranquility and peace i feel when i am just in my "ME" zone. I was so relieved to know there are so many that have this creativity waiting to explode. watching you is now a real facet of what i like. i am so glad to know i can turn to this community and watch their creativity rise from pictures, stickers, washi tape , but it is like putting together a puzzle that is my head. And yes it has to be placed just in the right place so all of this all you create is a unique expression . I don't feel like i am odd, or strange any more. Those that do not relate to this may not understand. Thank you!!

I’ve kept a journal since I was a kid. As an adult I continue journaling and it’s such a healthy way for me to process my feelings. I also Bible journal which is faith and art, and it’s something that I want to pass down to my future children. It’s nice to see how my faith has grown and it’s something I want to inspire for future generations.

I first started journaling in general in 2018 just before my mom passed away. When she passed away I was lucky to have already started this process so during her period in the hospital I was able to write down all my complicated thoughts and feelings. I was able to document the end of a relationship as soon thereafter and then the start of a new one after that. That’s when I found art journaling. But it wasn’t the first time I’ve done it. In the fifth grade I had a teacher who had us keep journals that we had to write in for 30 minutes every day. She kept magazines and art supplies for us to decorate in our journals and I imagine she probably was an art journalist too! When i started to add art into my journal I was able to heal from the loss of my mom and reclaim my journal for what I wanted out of my future. I also have a fear of memory loss, because my mom started to lose her memory before she passed, so my journal and the art in it has let me have a record for myself of the wonderful experiences in my life to look back at fondly. On top of all that, I’m an artist and designer and absolutely love stationary so I’ve found it also a cathartic way to put my art hoarding to good use. When i started, i realized i already had all the supplies, hehehe 💕 Loved this video, and love everything you put out!

I use a travel journal with a craft insert for my art journal, in which keep little art projects and write about the process behind it. I also keep an insert in this journal where I put in cards or things that hold a special meaning to me. I call this my little gifts journal. For my thoughts and memories I use a different travel journal.

Agree with everything you say . I started bullet journaling October 2019 , and the whole thing has snowballed from there , the best part is being in the journaling family , exchanging happy mail and writing to new found friends . Thank you one and all ....really helped me mentally as my life has changed dramatically in the last two years

I did have one art/bullet journal in 2018 but then I didn't write that much so I left it after one month of use . Now I was inspired from so many KZbinrs and also started to do the mixt journal that I did before but now I have some watercolor that I can use and start to be more creative like before I was in high school . Sadly I don't have much supplies but maybe after a couple of years I will have more

However, similar to your own childhood I also used to keep/create art journals when I was younger too ^_^ more as a creative outlet with no pressure as you said. My art journal isn't about therapy but more for memory keeping for my kids someday, They could really care less about my scrapbooking or planning or whatever (they're boys lol) but when my mom passed away in 2012 I had many decisions to make in my life. Although I was just a scrapbooker at the time I realized I wasn't documenting me very often. I would document trips and nature pics and things like that but I wasn't telling my story like it needs to me. I realized after my mom passed away that I just didn't know her well at all. In fact I have may ten photos of her even and I really know not much at all about her childhood or her likes and dislikes...not even her fave color. I did self-reflect and realized that even though my kids know quite a bit (I am fairly transparent and sometimes loud about my life if that makes sense) about me...there's a lot they don't know that I want them to know so my goal is to learn to write from the heart so that they have lots of things to remember and to learn that they can take with them the rest of their own lives some day.
