Beautiful restoration job you did on the old school bell. It looks much better, almost like new, and it works like a charm too. Excellent work as usual. Stay safe too.

As you were painting the green, I thought "meh", but once you added the bright work I thought "oh yeah, a great choice". Well done sir, well done.

I know, I was rather sad that I could not find the same color, not even close, it was darkish blue that I could match the closest, to I went for the green hammered instead. i think it turned out great.

Very delicate work. Those wires are a very thin gauge. Awesome resto as always.

Not just a “school” bell but a fire alarm/bell ~ that is what they were used for in commercial buildings in the 60s,70s when fire alarm systems were made mandatory ⚠️🔥
@AJRestoration

I wonder if they used these for school bells and Fire alarm bells? or were these elusively for fire alarms?

~ ✅, it is possible for the ‘bells’ to have 2 signals/sources for their voltage - I remember when I was at secondary school and sent to the headteachers office, she had a dedicated period “bell” digital programmer on the wall with a light switch above it, the switch had the fire-proof red wire coming out of it and possibly to the main fire-bell above the fire-alarm-control panel. The light switch to turn off the “period” bell for special occasions at the school, when I started secondary in year 7, the period bell rang for 3 seconds to attempt to make it distinct from the fire-alarm, if the bell rang for more than 3secs outside of the periods =🔥, when I was in year 10 the period bell was pulsed to make it even more distinct from a fire alarm, and unfortunately [in year 12] when the headteacher was retired, the replacement said it was no longer compliant and we were to only have the fire alarm bell [so new pupils won’t be confused with the 2 alarms] 🙄😠,

It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!! I think the black hammered paint would have looked better but it still looks great though. I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up

Nice resto.👍 Small tip in using Hammerite paint: The paint has the tendency to flow "open" leaving spots on the metal uncovered. Before appying the Hammerite paint, apply a coat of normal paint in the same color. The end results looks even better than.

Thank you, I will do that next time, they do say on the paint can that a minimum of two layers is required. I did do two layers, the first layer did exactly what you said in your comment. The second layer sealed it up. I just didn't show it in the video, painting is boring enough haha.

Like the way you place those small screws in place with the tweezers without missing the hole where they belong

@AJRestoration it's a pain in the back side trying to get the small stuff back in place I've been there did that on a fuel pump on a 8 h.p Briggs and Stratton engine The small spring's are a pain trying to get them in the right place more over trying to hold them is a strange thing to get them placed just right 🤬

Since these were up high and out of sight, I think the color was usually chosen to blend in with the wall color. Now. It doesn’t matter and the green is appropriate.

I grew up in the era where those type of mechanical school bells were starting to fade away. It wasn't until my middle school years in the early 2000s where they switched over to school bell systems over the intercom speakers. It's like a certain tone sound you hear. Kinda sounds boring and annoying these days.

Same here, I can still remember the day when the bell was replaced by a speaker. Was quite jarring.
