I know it's 7 months late but I believe I have an answer. Back in the day when TV wanted to say something important, or what they deemed to be important, they believed it was necessary to have the message given by someone with a familiar face. Archie Bunker at this time in history was one of the most recognized faces on television, at least by adults. Public Service Announcements are usually done by celebrities or TV personalities. Sure he's reading a script but it's for a cause he was okay with voicing.

@@EnyatheGamer37 An even better way to deal with air pollution is to disperse the large cities. Having that many people concentrated in such small areas, stacked on top of one another, I never could understand the attraction. The large cities are now masses of crime and murder capitals, run for decades by democrats whose policies made those places what they are today. Here in the Midwest, we haven't had any issues with air pollution, and yet the problem solving in the larger cities forced greater economic hardships on everyone else, as if that's fair. Never once do we hear mass media yammering about the 48 active volcanoes belching more CFC's and greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere than what mankind could produce in 100,000 years. No. All we hear about is how bad we are as people to be doing all this to planet earth, while these same policy makers keep strapping our children with debt they will never be able to pay off. No, these Hollywood freaks who parrot the scripts they're handed by the activists behind the cameras, it's all nothing more than a power grab.

Carroll O'Connor was an environmentalist who worked on many issues as a private citizen. He was just the opposite of Archie Bunker in real life.
