Overview of my personal vintage audio collection. I am a long time collector of vintage stereo gear like receivers, speakers, amps, turntables, cassette decks from brands like McIntosh, Sansui, Pioneer, Yamaha, Klipsch, JBL, Marantz and many others. This is an overview of part of my vintage stereo collection I have on display in my personal showroom. This is my first video, so I am still learning, but new videos will be on specific pieces of gear, new finds or seeing other collections. Please feel free to leave comments on what you like or what you would like to see and I will try to incorporate them into future videos.

You have been blessed to have such an awesome space for your music and hifi passion. I only have a tiny man cave but am grateful to have that at least along with a small shop area in my garage for restoring vintage speakers and cleaning up the occasional vintage stereo receiver. Love your channel.

Agree, but there is also the option of adding in a new pre with remote and having everything else vintage, if really needed. I added a simple Bluetooth connection to my office system and control the streaming from my laptop.

Wow, the Pioneer Sx1010 bought back memories, both good and sad. The tuner wheel was so smooth, it could take you from one side to the other with just one spin. The dual bass and treble knobs allowed for complete control. The sad part was that it got stolen from my apartment in the Bronx. Beautiful vintage pieces, thanks for sharing.

Greetings . First of all congratulations for the channel !!! EXCELLENT !!! your work the one you are doing, I have an Onkyo Digital A-8800 with all the modules of the equipment are Onkyo which are an M504 amplifier, with an EQ540 Interga equalizer and another EQ-201 and another EQ-25 and another EQ-140 and one TA-2550 Interga and one TA-2750 Interga and one TA-205 Interga deck. a CP1500F Interga platter and Ortofon 40 turntable needle and CD DX-708 Interga, and the T-4500 Interga radio, All the models are from the Onkyo brand, which is the best that Onkyo does NOT make mass production if they are not selected from the Onkyo And the cables connected to the equipment are of the KabelDirekt Pro Series RCA brand and 4 DAS R-212 Speakers. and 2 Mivoc hype 10 g2 hifi subwoofers, 300 w, from 20 to 180 hz. IN THE END A CLASSIC OF THE 80S AND 90S of sound equipment of that time, over the years I have never broken any module, that is already seen from how they worked before and the manufacturing materials, I hope to have it duarte, many years for the quality of a good musical team, greetings and very good videos that you have a great like for your great videos, great sound models like these devices are no longer manufactured, it is a pity, that nowadays everything is plastic, greetings from Barcelona - You could do one of Onkyo Interga also of Review - Congratulations to all Onkyo electronics, the Inegra Series was a true excellence. I bring you bad news, for this glorious brand, which made hifi history, these days, Sharp, who recently acquired the brand, announced that the debt is incurable. The electronic audio equipment company Onkyo has filed for bankruptcy, after accumulating debts of US$24 million. Onkyo, founded in Osaka in 1946 under the name "Osaka Denky Onkyo K.K", has failed to position its mainly analog equipment in the streaming era, consequently Onkyo has been declared bankrupt by the Onkyo company. Even if the electronics produced today had nothing to do with the wonderful electronics that it has... A big greeting from Barcelona, Spain,

Oh, excuse me. I just drooled on my keyboard. I love those vintage jewels -- nothing like Golden Age hi-fi equipment! (I have that "The Fisher" 500-TX "Tune-O-Matic," too!) But I have to ask (and I hope none of the other 293 previous commenters beat me to it): What IS that room/storage space? Is it an outbuilding of some kind? A garage? A basement? An attic? Whatever it is, it looks like an ideal set-up. Thanks for sharing. I will have sweet dreams tonight...

LOL, well.... Thank You! It is fun getting to view so many examples all in the same place. So, the setup here is this, I live on about 5 ac of property and the former owner had a fairly decent sized cabinet making business. So, I have about 4,000 sq of ft of shop floor space separate from my home. It is comprised of three buildings, two of which are connected. The "front" building was divided up into rooms and had 9' ceilings, so I finished it out and use it as my personal "showroom". That back room you saw is a 30' x 50' building where I store things that don't fit in the showroom. There is also a 2nd 30'x50' building off the back of that one as well. So, LOTS of space!

You've got a pretty sweet collection there. I have a decent (but small) collection of speakers myself. Mainly woofers and full (or wide) range drivers, but I do have a handful of speakers that I've found in-person for pretty good deals, either by luck or simply because I had the opportunity. Here are all of the speakers I have: -Late 70's Visonik David 502 (Personal main spkrs) -1982 Miller & Kreisel Satellite 3B's (I have the early prod. model with the rectangular peerless tweeters, Serial #'s 333339 & 333340) -Mid 70's Visonik David 30 (Single spkr, will eventually restore and find a mate) -Late 70's Ultralinear "CARponents" series model M-15 -1993 ADS AW4 w/original box (trying to sell, one speaker is intermittent but I can't remove the grilles) -1970 Magnavox S-8752 (trying to sell, one tweeter is blown) -1978 EPI Model 10's) -2006 Yamaha HTiB -1996 Zenith 711X HTiB w/early prod. matching "subwoofer" (Might grab the matching receiver for them too if I can get a good deal on one) -2005 Pinnacle Subsonic "Micro" subwoofer (I have the version with the dual 6-½" woofers, both of them are active. There's no passive radiators) -1997 B.I.C. model V69 Powered "sub" w/6x9" woofer inside -1999 Cambridge Soundworks New Ensemble II (passive "sub") For speaker drivers I've got...: -Single 2" Selfcontained from a Google Home Mini. 4 ohms. Trying to get rid of it. -Several 6x9's, one pair by Pyle from 1976, one pair by Utah from 1973, a single Quam guitar speaker from 1960, and a single GEFCO full range. All are 8 Ohm. -x3 4x6", one 1978 NOS pair 8 ohm by Peerless?? and a single 1969 30 Ohm by SEAS. -x4 3x5's, one generic 3.2 Ohm TV spkr, a pair of 8 Ohm BECKER wide range from 1965, and a NIB 4 Ohm Philips replacement TV spkr from the 90's. -Couple 3" drivers, one from a 1992 Minimus 0.3, one Vifa S09FC Neodymium FR out of my David 30, and a Peerless TC9FD18-08 driver. All are 8 Ohm. -Couple 4 & 5" Drivers, one 4 Ohm pair of Carbonneau 4-½" poly midwoofers, one 8 Ohm 1968 Philips AD3501 Whizzer cone FR, and a very rare NIB Oaktron 5" "Clip Mount" weather resistant speaker with a plastic cone from 1976, also 8 Ohm. -Several 6" & 6-½" drivers, one 6" Midwoofer from Infinity RS series, one 6-½" Carbonneau woofer from 1982 (though frame is bent), one unknown 6-½" poly cone from a wall spkr (w/tweeter & crossover), one pair of 6-½" Rola midwoofers w/rubber surrounds from 1971, and a single Rola midwoofer from 1974 that came out of a Zenith Allegro 1000. All 8 Ohm. -Couple 8" Drivers, one generic guitar replacement speaker (that you could buy from PE in the late 00's), one generic whizzer cone FR, one Rola guitar spkr, and a single Heppner reverb spkr from 1965 that may have came out of a hammmond organ. All also 8 Ohm. -Single NIB 4x10" by Jensen, model P4X10U40 from 1956 which has a green center-tapped voice coil. Impedance is 40 Ohms CT. Without the CT it's 20. CT speakers in general are pretty uncommon, but this particular one is extremely rare. -Single 12" Rola with a whizzer cone, 8 Ohms. From 1982? Pretty but also very efficient.

Love the tour! As a budding audiophile / lifetime music nerd , I have been trying to up my game. Currently have a B&O TX2, NAD 7155, Denon DCD 1500, and Nakamichi BX 125. My speakers are Klipsch Forte and A.R. 4X's. I recently got a Heathkit AA-100 tube amplifier to toss into the mix , but am looking for suggestions on where to place it in the signal chain. I listen to the phonograph and receiver most frequently. Maybe a video on the options and your preferences ? Keep up the great videos!
@stereoniche
@stereoniche 2 жыл бұрын
Great start with some cool gear already! So on the Heathkit, I believe that is an integrated amp, so you could just use it to connect your sources to your speakers. The Fortes would be the best for pair with it. Now, in general, getting tubes anywhere in the chain is sufficient, but my preference is to use tube amps with a SS pre-amp, if possible. In your case, if the Heathkit has pre-out/main-in, you could go that route with the NAD as a pre.

You would be the one to know. The Onkyo TX-8511 that I have pragmatically will do everything needed. I bought it at a yard sale during the last depression 2008ish. Manual, antenna, original bill of sale so I know it wasn't hot or anything. Any particular thoughts on the NAD 7020? Or the later digital tuners. Thank you for taking the time to answer. Gee. Incredible collection indeed, so well presented. I like the Polk SDA 2 speaker with the Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble on top of it. It's the combination. I have Dutch designed Translator Impact5 4-way floorstanders from the 1980s with small modern KEF LS50 Metas on top of them. Hooked to a Denon PMA-QS10 Mk2 amplifier the two pairs in concert are more than 1+1 pair in sound quality and soundstage. "Just add Kef" to the big old Translators works perfectly to take both pairs to a higher level. Would "just add the Ensemble" to the Polks give a similar augmented sound result?
@stereoniche
@stereoniche 2 жыл бұрын
There are many that like stacked Advents, but I have actually never tried speaker combinations outside of adding a subwoofer. Even then, that is not something I have done often. The only thing I would mention for others is to be careful of the impedance changes your amp will see if wiring them in parallel. Do a quick google search on how to connect multiple speakers before setting them up so the amp is not potentially damaged.
@colanitower
@colanitower 2 жыл бұрын
@@stereoniche In the amplifier's manual and even on its back side this is mentioned too, so I already checked if the combination wouldn't risk damage before adding the small speakers. For this combination it's fine. But thanks for the warning! 👍

Very nice collection. The material for new systems now and have been for some time are made of plastic and metal. Would be nice if one manufacture went back to a wood cabinet use for Combo systems and or Receiver. Even if it only looks like wood but is made of another material for ventilation purposes.
@stereoniche
@stereoniche 2 жыл бұрын
You are so right. In the vintage audio hobby, most call them "BPC" (Black Plastic Crap) for the all plastic models. This was the big shift in the 80's for many manufacturers from the prior era of metal knobs/faceplates and wood cabinets.

Good techs are more rare than the gear, unfortunately. The Onkyo gear of this era was not sold in nearly the same numbers as Pioneer, Marantz, etc. so they do not come up very often, much less the TOTL like the TX8500. Great find and hope you get it going.

@@glenz1975 Very nice. The monster gear of any brand is hard to come by, especially these days. I actually have an SX-1250 and SX-1980, however, they are FAR from the condition of anything in my showroom. In fact, the 1250 is so bad, I've had it wrapped in plastic wrap for the past 2 yrs with dryer sheets to try and rid it of the cigarette smell. It literally looks like someone used it as an anchor for a while. Sometimes it shocks me how much abuse these things can take as, amazingly, it still turns on. The SX-1980 is better, but not by much. They will both make a good story on bringing them back, but that is not going to be anytime soon.

Nicotine is one of the worst though, the smell is hard to get rid of. I'm sure you'll sort both the 1250/1980 in time and be prepared to battle with the 1980's power supply! 🙂

At 90w, you have sufficient power for most non-demanding 8 ohm speakers. As long as you avoid 4 ohm speakers, you are fine and it will play well. Your budget and room size will dictate a specific model, but Polks, Advents, KLH, Dalquist, Klipsch, Frazier are all brands that would pair well with it. Avoid ADS, Infinity, Magnepan as some hard to drive brands that I would not recommend for it. Hope that helps.

Hi Jimmy! Thanks for watching! I tend to flow back and forth between vinyl and CD. I've not yet ventured into streaming, but I know it will happen at some point. As for system rotation, well, it tends to follow whatever I am working on as far as a refurbish or some gear I've had restored, etc.. I have about three areas for systems, hoping to setup a 4th, but the primary one is in my home. The other two are within my showroom from this video. The 4th will be in my prior office which is located adjacent to the showroom and will be an area dedicated for listening sessions. Being a life long collector, it eventually got to a point where it is a challenge to rotate everything in with any frequency these days as the number of units has grown to be so large. There are some other videos on collecting, etc. so be sure to check those out when you can as I about how to manage a collection.

Kind of on the hunt for a vintageI receiver that I have had before. It would be a Marantz 2238b, Sansui G4500 or a NAD 7020. May also entertain a NAD 7240PE. I lost my stereo repair shop about 10 years ago and cannot repair anything myself. My only receiver is an Onkyo TX-8511 2 channel now. Thoughts on the digital NAD's? I live in a small apartment and really do not need a lot of power. Should I just wait for the Marantz I really want or the Sansui. The 2238 or G4500 have all the power I need but are ridiculously priced now. Probably best to wait for the pending national financial crash as we my find all of our money in bank will go missing. And no matter how lost you marinate an old Marantz it will be a little tough to chew!
