My grandpa was born in 1948 & he always has a chocolate mayonnaise cake for his birthday, so it has been a staple in my family for generations. I make our recipe every so often because it really is so yummy! Mayonnaise is a great substitute in baking because it’s just oil & eggs!

I've not tried that one yet. My mom did make a tomato soup cake once, it tasted a bit like a spice cake. Growing up we had neighbors that made potato chip cookies, they were actually delicious! The combo of sweet and salty was super good.

Happy birthday! You’re so much fun. The cake making was a delight to watch. Another unusual use for mayo, which yields excellent results, is making grilled cheese sandwiches. Instead of butter, spread the bread with mayonnaise. Makes a wonderful melted cheese sandwich, with nice even crispy toasting. Although using those individually wrapped slices of processed cheese would make for more of a vintage recipe, a good sharp cheddar tastes much nicer. And, now I’m hungry for chocolate cake and cheese sandwiches!

When flouring a pan for chocolate cake use cocoa powder to avoid white crusting on cake. I have nothing else to add because you did such an awesome job!

Neat trick to keep your parchment from slipping and siding all around while you frost: dap a little frosting on the cake plate and then stick the parchment to that!

Tomato soup cake is absolutely delicious! It's moist and spicy, with cloves in it. Just don't put who cloves in it, like my sister did! Ugh! Raisins are a great addition to it! I just turned 59, and these are cakes we grew up making: chocolate sourkraut cake, chocolate mayonnaise cake, and tomato soup cake! There's also an apple sauce cake that is moist and delicious! I'm really enjoying your channel!

Happy Birthday! Love chocolate cake, so I will be trying this. About a week and a half ago, hubby and I went to some town wide garage sales and I purchased a 1949 Universal gas stove. It's super clean. We just need to put on a new plug as they accidently put the stove down on the plug. I named her Irene after the husband's aunt who was the original owner.

You can put leftover chocolate frosting sandwiched between graham crackers, let them sit a day in an open plastic baggie and the next day they're super soft and yummy. 😁 I'm going to try your recipe, thanks!

Little tip from Betty Crocker's Cookbook for Boys and Girls (originally published in '57). When assembling a 2 layer cake, turn the first layer upside down so the rounded top fits into the recessed part of the plate. This leave you with the flat bottom now facing upwards. Second layer goes on bottom first, leaving a nice rounded top. I hope I am describing this clearly; she has a little illustration. Basically, you are putting the two flat bottoms next to each other (filled with your delicious frosting, of course). Thus, no wasted cake, nor crumbs to deal with. Your cake looks great, though, and I know it will be appreciated.

One of my favorite appliances is a Westinghouse three blade electric mixer. Works flawlessly- has a little light in the frame shining into the mixing bowl. An EBay buy years ago. New old stock and came with 3 different size milk glass bowls plus a juicer attachment! But your home and things like your sunburst wall clocks 'take the cake'!!! 🥮🥣🎂

Put a thermometer in the oven so you know how hot it gets so you can gauge the temp. I had a few ovens that did that as well. Also, you might need to find some pretty covers for the stove eyes. Don't want food to get in there and ruin them.
