This looks awesome!!! If using non-milk paint, what kind would you use (latex, oil etc) and would the rest of the process be the same? Would you still seal it? Does a milk paint finish last as long as a paint finish? Thanks!!

There are so many paints out there and they all require different prep work and top coats. Milk paint is a very durable finish.

You should always clean your project and a scuff sand helps any paint grip well. If you don't use milk paint for your project, look for something specifically made for furniture [chalk paint (Dixie Belle is popular), mineral paint (I like Melange), or an all in one (Fusion Mineral paint).] Chalk and mineral paint can be finished with Hemp oil, Beeswax, or something tougher like polycrylic. Milk paint is really durable but also fussy. It doesn't give always consistent finish, but if you like an antiqued or chippy finish, it's awesome for that. Adding the extra bond helps, but isn't fail proof. A definite bonus of milk paint is that it's eco friendly and easy to clean up.

@@caitlinjohnson1981 Thank you! I don’t like a chippy finish. (I know I can put a binder in milk paint). I have a rocker that is similar to that bench and I really want to paint it black.
