I'm pretty relieved you own so many cameras, Dave. I can show this to my wife, and she might not complain so much about the 40 or so I've accumulated. The downside to this video is I now see some more 'must haves' 😂

Love the 'peek' at the collection -- just do a 4-5 hour livestream and you can cover them all!!! My latest collecting 'criteria' is the 'dual lens' cameras -- like your Minolta (have one of those) -- two focal lengths, not a zoom. Some have two completely separate lenses and an internal mirror that moves to select one lens or the other, some have a lens assembly that moves out to the telephoto length, and some have a small internal 'teleconverter' lens that flips into place. Most have a moving/shifting viewfinder to show the approximate coverage of the two different focal lengths -- some just have separate frame lines. Some have really advanced P&S features -- auto flash, AF, exposure compensation -- while I have a few that are fixed focus with almost no controls/features. A neat 'transition' between the fixed focal length P&S cameras and the zoom P&S cameras.

Your first Lomo LC-A actually is the version, made by Lomography. It can be identified by the symbol on the cover. The other Lomo LC-A is the original Soviet made camera, which inspired the Lomography movement. I would love to shoot a Lomo LC-A someday, if I manage to find one. The film camera, that I use now is a Praktica MTL 5 B with a Pentacon Auto f 1.8 50 mm lens.

Yes, please do show us more! I have an Olympus µ-II and a 105R superzoom, both free gifts, and a fancy-pants Pentax PC35 AF-M, also a free gift. My oldest are a 1964 Konica EE-Matic Deluxe ($20 eBay) and a 1950s Kodak Box Brownie (free gift).

The Minolta/Leica colab didn't end with SLR's. Leica took 3 Minolta p/s and turned them into their own. I call them the Unholy Trinity of Leica Plastics. The Minolta Freedom Tele became the Leica AF-C1, the Minolta Freedom Zoom 90c became the Leica C2-Zoom, and last but not least the Minolta Freedom Escort became the Leica Mini and Leica Mini II.

Nice collection. I have (or have had) most of the cameras in your collection. I would add about the XA4 that it also has a 28mm lens, which is wider than any other XA model. It's great for landscape shooting, or for situations when you're shooting from hip and want a better chance of getting your subject in the frame. I use mine mostly on the bike, where the wide field of view works well. The XA4 also came with a proprietary flash that worked in the macro mode. The flashes seem to be quite rare--I've only ever seen one of those IRL.
@theoldcameraguy2 ай бұрын
Yeah, the wider lens is another cool aspect of the XA4 - I just can’t justify picking one up right now.

Thanks for doing this Dave! I think if you have the original strap, there's a plastic piece with a nib to push those tiny buttons on the databack.

Now that you mention it, I don’t think I have the original strap

I have the XA family and I love them. I got a 4 , it didn't have it special strap and it had been overhauled but the winder isnt connected to the film number so I don't know how many Ive taken but for @£80+ far cheaper than £200+ , I bought it.

Definitely a keeper at that price!

Interesting collection. I have not really given compact cameras a chance. Almost all of mine are SLR in 35mm or medium format. I do own a Konica Z-Up 120 VP.

Loved seeing your collection of cameras, especially the Minoltas. One of my favourites is the FSE or Freedom 1 which is a 35mm f4.5 focus free camera with a ridiculously noisy auto winder which i generally use with expired colour film especially Konica 400 centuria, the colour shifts and grain are immense but it hits the spot for me. I also have a now deceased Lomo LCA which i had brand new in the early 90s. I was impressed with your Olympus collection and may now have to add one to my collection after seeing your review, looking forward to the next video

Great collection, Dave! The Minolta freedom escort is very underrated and one of my personal favorite point and shoots. Mine starts taking double exposures about midway through a roll and I get some really fun shots that surprise me. In fact this video had me thinking I should get another to take regular snaps. So thanks again for inspiring me getting on the computer today and purchase a Panasonic version of that camera. 😂

Hmm.. random double exposures - now that would keep things interesting!

I can envision those Kodak Star cameras in plastic blister packs hanging on a peg at the local Jamesway or Caldor. Would love to see Battle Of The Kodak Stars. It's not exactly Gabe Kaplan vs. Lou Ferrigno, but it'll be fun.

enjoyed the look at your collection. I have always been a Minolta fan and the Super A is what started my collection, as well oddly enough a Mamiya sekor 528tl. I have been shooting one of my X700s and a Nikon F2 lately. I have also been shooting a Nikon Af600 but its been a bit finicky. A Kodak Star was one of my first cameras as a kid (in the 90s) and I always have my eye open for the model I had so I would be interested in a video of yours for sure.

Agree with you Olympus mu1 being better than mu2. Another thing is that Mu1 shutter button is very prominent and nice and big. Mu2 is smaller and feels bit fiddly. Quality wise also it is very sharp. I have the auto advance version of the Pentax PC35. Lovely camera but unfortunately mine sometimes gets stuck in self timer mode
