Vintage Caterpillar 3208 diesel wouldn't start. Wish I knew why.

I know old mechanical diesels like that have a shut off solenoid. I used to see them get stuck when they are old especially if they get hot. Might be worth a check.

Last year, I had an intermittent problem with the fuel pump in my car. I was not able to figure it out. It took my mechanic a week to find the problem. It turned out that there was a problem with the fuse panel under the hood and as a result the fuse for the fuel pump was loose. Putting in a different type of fuse and bending one of the contacts fixed the problem. It’s possible that you may be dealing with a similar issue.

I was watching another channel about these old busses , on that channel they were repairing the buses and the costs of towing the buses. The police would order the buses to be towed by huge wreckers at considerable expense. Would it be an idea to place a 120 volt air compressor in the bay with your gen set to supply air to operate the brakes when motor fails. then place two tow points on front to attach a rescue strap...then any big pickup could get you free of the two truck fees. For a short tow to get you off the freeways ect.

Did you check into the fuel shut off valve that needs lubricated on top of the engine

You do know that the battery display is for the house batteries and not the engine starting batteries

My bus doesn't have a separate starting battery except for the generator. Thanks for commenting.
