I enjoy watching your videos of the vintage equipment you have. Have you seen many modifications to the old tube type equipment? If so could you put together a video of them. I'm a fan of the old tube radios and use them daily. The radios I have are made by Johnson. One of the White Face radios I have has been modified so that it has 10 channels by using the channel selector from a Black Face Johnson. Thanks again for your videos. 73's

I remeber seeing that AE unit advertised many moons ago. I never had one, however. Those were the days! 73!

Yes there were some U.S. makers of the tube units. Vibratrol (who made some for other company's such as Lafayette), Knight, and Demco are a few that come to mind. I'm sure there were many others. I have a Lafayette branded unit that was manufactured by Vibratrol. You can see it in my Lafayette HE-20C series of videos I have here on KZbin. 73's Paul

I have some vintage S9 magazines and few of them have their adds. In my Pace 1000B SideTalk video I show an American Electronics hand held power microphone from around the same era as the pre-map compressor box. IIRC these are the only two American Electronics items I own. 73's Paul

@KC8YOQ Congrats! I'm sure you will enjoy it and look forward to a video. I owned two of them and a factory service manual back in the early 1990's. All long gone now. It was before the days of the internet so I had no clue just how rare they were although I new they weren't to common. Plus I was just a teen and more into newer radios then.

Hello Ian. Online I've seen some of those American Electronic clones of the D104 & TUG8 stands. They don't seem to uncommon. Was his made in Japan? Seems like most American Electronic branded items were made there but I've never owned one of their D104 clones.

Just bought an American electronics speech processor new old stock. I haven't hooked it up to try it yet but hope it sounds good. I like the small size. I also have an mfj unit that sounds good but not as small and uses an internal battery. I like that the AE has external power.

Thanks for the info Ian. Always wondered if those units were Japanese made as well. That A&E brand was around in the 1970's, mostly offering accessories but there are some radios using the brand as well. 73's Paul

@TheZeke1974 I've noticed a lot of sellers asking some high prices for vintage CB items lately. Many are not even tested and of course they never sell unless they come way down on the price. I've waited some of them out after multiple relistings until they got down to a respectable starting bid.

G'day, I was just wondering if the us made compressor has a tube in it. I'd be very interested, just recently bought a courier 23 and am looking for a tube preamp/compressor schematic to use with it. Can't be too many of these tube radios on Australian shores. Anyway hope you can help out and I may even hear you on 38 lsb. Thanks from 535 Jeremy Melbourne.

@151Tomcat Yes I agree I should have went into more detail, it's not a perfect video. But since the video didn't meet your expectations you give me thumbs down, are rude to me, & still have the audacity to ask me about what they do. If you had shown me common courtesy I would have been more than willing to help. Now I suggest you Google mic pre-amp & mic compressor and educate yourself. Maybe you'll learn something about courtesy and respect while you're in search for answers.

There were a few old tube rigs from back in the day that used plate modulation and I'm telling you folks, no current overmodulated Cobra 29 with a clipped AMC limiter diode could hold a candle to a Sonar FS-23 with a properly adjusted compressor and quality microphone. Or really any other good old tube rig. Most CB rigs on the air today and especially the truckers rigs sound like complete crap. And its not honestly their fault. They buy the truck stop CB shop snake oil over and over again. It seems to me that K40 made a mike that had speech compression. Anyone ever had any luck with those?

@262NagantRadios There are two Courier tube rigs for sale on Ebay and the seller refuses to drop the prices. I told both if the seller they are not worth the money and they both got angry, lol.

Just a note; i wired up my AE compressor and the radio sounds better with it off. It has NO COMPRESSION at all. In fact a stock mic sounds better than this POS.
