Seeing all of these shops, crafts, and specialties pass away makes watching these videos bittersweet. I sometimes wish I could be all things and offer help to everyone, but these things have made it this far because the people behind them made them their one and only mission. At the same time, it feels kind of precious to know that you were alive during the short time in history that some of these businesses were around, doesn't it? Love that these videos are offering a little historic preservation in the great big sea of KZbin.

I really love this series Tay, it's a great idea! At the same time every time the video finished, I feel so sad to all this old and traditional things will disappear one day because the new generation aren't interested. Here in Italy we have the same problem with some artisan work that require patience and hard work to learn.. people nowadays always run and lost interest in the small handmade and precious things :(
@Kaybye5553 жыл бұрын
I agree. I'm from Mexico. I would like to shop that more but it is honestky super expensivr and wages are low. I believe that's more of a reason than the lack of interest. People who buy handmade are usually people with money

I usually don't leave youtube comments but as someone who was born in HK and raised in the US, I know very little about HK aside from a few trips there and info I get online. Just wanted to say how much appreciate this series and all the research you do. HK is constantly modernizing and redeveloping that old school businesses are often forced to close down and move out. It's so wonderful to see someone appreciating the work they do and giving them a platform to share their stories. I'm sure these videos will be a precious memory to many in the future :)

Documenting the world as they are today is so important to preserve memories into the future! One of the most famous examples I know is a guy decided to mount an early film camera to an automobile and slowly drive it down market street, from one end to the other, in San Francisco sometime within the week BEFORE the big earthquake hit. Because of this, he preserved a record of the appearance of the city, basically it's gold rush/Victorian phase, forever on film for people in the future to enjoy. Even if things change, documenting them now helps us be able to share and pass down memories through the ages!
