Great video! I got myself a vintage Hordak that's seen better days. I'm planning on disassembling him, replacing the rubber leg joints, priming him in grey and doing a complete repaint. Nice to know regular miniature paints will do the job! I'm gonna get the airbrush out for the larger areas.

Very thorough explanation of the restoration process. What I like about your method is that it leaves that authentic 80s vintage touch to the figure rather than altering/modernizing it (the temptation is there, I know...). Good job!

Lovely and interesting video as always. Regarding matching the paint, or more correct: _see_ if the paint match, I have a suggestion. Cut a hole into a white paper, paint around the hole, let dry and then hold the wanted color under the hole. This method will give you a werry good to tell to see how well it matches. =)

French He-Man must have had factory paint that was meant for another type of rubber/plastic than the kind used on their He-Man's head. Obviously the paint doesn't tend to bond as well as the paint on the American version. Perhaps it's the other way around though, and the paint was thinned at the factory to reduce cost? Hard to say, but clearly there's a big difference in the different production lines. Thanks once again, David, for posting another paint restoration video. The pin trick is interesting, and might be a good way to go for those who don't have small brushes, or aren't particularly artistically inclined. I always use a small brush when I do details on action figure's faces. Years of drawing and painting 28mm D&D miniatures has given me a very steady hand for this kind of thing, so I'm good to use the brush. One trick though, that I picked up from my miniature painting days, is to take a tooth pick and split it up into slivers using an X-acto knife. Kind of like splintering it from the point back into smaller slivers. These small slivers can then be dipped into the paint in order to produce a very small point. A lot of painters used to do pupils on the 28mm miniatures using this method, and it worked very, very well. I imagine it could work well for larger action figure eye painting too, on things like the dark pupils inside the iris.

Something I've always been impressed on action figures and other things like vehicles and playsets is how they were able to do such fine detail painting at the factory? I believe the factory had some kind of mask they put on the figure and then paint it and then have to use a new mask for each color. I still have no idea how that process worked. I don't know how possible this would be. But I'd love seeing someone do videos at a toy factory showing how action figures and other things get painted and how they are able to paint with such fine detail. As also it looks like over the years that they've been able to paint with higher and finer detail. There are some figures and things that have such fine paint detail all over the figure that I have no idea how they pulled that off without making a paint mess. I'd love seeing a video at a Hasbro or Mattel factory showing us them putting say masks on the figures and painting them.

Good Job Dave I love using the Vallejo Paints both on the brush and airbrushing. You can mix the top coat into the colour to give a hardened paint finish instead of a separate top coating it if using a brush, doesn't effect the flow and makes the paint really level out. Handy for things like the teeth and eyebrows where a top coat would be overkill. You should also get a few primary colour Vallejo Model Air paints too, designed for airbrushing, but great for thinning down the Game colours when adjusting the shade for brush painting. You can also use Maskol to provide a liquid mask to prevent overpaint if you wanted to be super neat, not really necessary on these figs as they were mass painted but it is ideal if you are repainted lost print. I have recently restored a bunch of Lego Fabuland figures and maskol was a game changer repainting the eyes and noses on some. What's happened to your molotow chrome pen? thought the trim on Thunder Punch would of got sprucing too :P

I was going to ask you if you had tried Game colour paints by Vallejo? And here you are with one already. They are generally of richer colours with added variety to the basic range Model colour ones. Though that too is a massive range. My friends shop in Birmingham Jewellery Quarter stocks all the ranges of them plus Tamiya as well. Seeing as you paint GI Joe vehicles as well you may also want to try the Vallejo style Military colours. Though they are more for Military modelling painting and grubbier colours. I thinl there is a specific range name to them but I cannot find my few examples to check. Just a possible addition if you see them. Great bit of mixing today. As I finished this originally comment typically I found the range name "Panzer Aces" also Vallejo.

Eddy. How would you have dealt with this particular issue? Would you have left them as they are or do you have a better method? There must be thousands of these toys sitting around in 40 year old's lofts some of which might end up being binned because people think they are too tatty so I'm not sure that it hurts to show how someone could refresh them if they want to. So it's a genuine question if you have a different method or can expand on where he's going wrong.
