Күн бұрын

The first part in my restoration of a vintage Masters of the Universe Snake Mountain. Skeletors playset has seen better days and needs a bit of work to get it back up and running.
In part one I cover cleaning the playset and how to repair the broken tabs on the bridge and fence posts.

You're like the British Bob Ross of vintage toy repair. I don't have an old snake mountain (I just started with MOTUC) but watching you fix this was both fascinating and oddly relaxing. Great job.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but there is also lego technic towball that has an axle on the other end rather than a pin which might work even better as you could cut down the axle to fit a hole drilled into the broken piece. (Lego Part 2736)

GOOD JOB DUDE.👍 I would have done the same. I probably wouldn't have bothered with the O rings atall though and just glued it all back in place.Never to be broken or removed ever again. Lol 😂 its not like the rails really need removing anyway for any real good reason. Then just added some grey paint on repaired tab areas to finish it off nicely. Nobody would ever know. 👍 😉 Im also restoring my own snake mountain aswell at mo. You can get shackles replacements that are alot better than the originals too. Ive heard they are very good. Not solid plastic like bad design originals. 👍 😉

Another great video! I'm always impressed with how you find just the right parts to do these fixes. While I might have done things a bit differently so the railings would still mount flush to the bridge, I doubt mine would have been as sturdy.

Could you have put the O ring on the bottom of the bridge, after the post is in place?
@dolljunk
@dolljunk 6 жыл бұрын
Instead of slipping on the O ring then plugging the posts into place, why not plug in the posts first, then slip the O-rings onto the plugs from the underside of the bridge? It would create a neater/flush appearance from above and it would hide the black parts underneath.
@toypolloi

That could work. I may make it difficult to get the pegs out. But certainly worth a try. Thanks.

is there somewhere where i can get a stronger version of the bridge?
@TheToyBoy1978
@TheToyBoy1978 6 жыл бұрын
Another great fix! However, I just thought i would say that one way to do it would be to simply put holes into the bottom of the posts and to screw screws up through the underside of the bridge, obviously using screws with a big head and making sure the holes in the posts are sufficient in size and depth so they dont split when the screw goes in (better to have a slightly loose fit) . Using a screw with the smallest and continuous sized thread and the biggest head you can find is your best bet.
@toypolloi
@toypolloi 6 жыл бұрын
You could use screws, but you wouldn't be able to take it apart easily, so that's not something I would suggest. I wanted to try and make something that was similar to the original and easy to work with.
@TheToyBoy1978
@TheToyBoy1978 6 жыл бұрын
Toy Polloi sure, that's fair enough, it was just a suggestion on a different way you could go about it, your way takes a little more skill to do and yes it does obviously make it easier to take apart athough if you're not thinking of taking it apart then i think going the screw route wouldn't be a bad option.

Nice videos!! I am a toycollecter so i can use your videos and tips how to repair them if needed. Wich glue is the best to use on plastic because not ever super glue will hold. Especially when plastics are softer
@toypolloi
@toypolloi 6 жыл бұрын
+GoliathAngelus Super glue seems to work well for me. But I know others have trouble with it. I also use the glue designed for model kits, that works well. But takes longer to dry so no so good for me when I am filming.

+Sl33pingLionheart What should they do? I vaguely remember the toy, but never had one.
@Sl33pingLionheart

Toy Polloi They don't do anything, just the leathery surface gets cracked and damaged as it gets old on the hands and feet.
@toypolloi
@toypolloi 6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you will need to find a modern replacement for the material used on the hands and feet and make replacements.
@Sl33pingLionheart
@Sl33pingLionheart 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah. That was my only idea too. Additionally I was thinking maybe some kind of paint exists that would give the same kind of texture when dry, but probably not.

Mattel built these toys cheaply, for there customers, children they where not robust the playsets and the figures could break quiet easy.
