I know a lot of our food friends enjoy collecting Pyrex, Fire King, and other vintage kitchenware. There isn't a lot in my collection, but here is a sampling of pieces I've picked up over the years.

When I first started housekeeping back in the 1970s I would pick up Fire King and Pyrex from the thrift stores. When guests come over and see my kitchen they usually say you got Fort Knox here! I never paid over a dollar for anyting. I have a lot of the odd and unusual pieces.

Sounds like you have a fun collection! I'm like you - I started buying these in the 1980's and they were very inexpensive at the time. Prices for collectables go up and down depending on what's popular. Thanks!

My mom and grandma had that set. When I grew up, if you said "big yellow mixing bowl" everyone knew what you meant bc everybody had one. I also started thrifting in the late 1970s and I remember getting the little blue bowl for a nickel. My daughter now looks for vintage pyrex, to use not collect. That's the joy of pyrex ... those pieces are so full of memories and they last forever.

I bought the first set shown in an antique store….In 1969 I received the yellow set of 4 mixing bowls (Daisy?), and the yellow oval casserole dish for a wedding gift…have the chartreuse (green) casserole dish from my mom, and some smaller dishes! All Pyrex! Really well-made and I packed them up and moved so many times in my earlier years-never broke any of them! Set up married life at age 20 and I’m now 75 years old! The Pyrex and me are still going strong! 😂😂Sherryl Weber

I inherited my grandma's Fire King handled soup bowls in peach luster. I recall many a bowl of chicken noodle soup being served to me in these bowls and treasure them now. Mom had the colored pyrex mixing bowls and lots of the white and blue cornflower pyrex.

I would be lost without my Pyrex storage containers. All from thrift stores and garage sales. They are awesome, store easily, stack well. AND save a ton of plastic. I use all my Pyrex! I don’t care what color or what pattern they are. The divided ones are nice if you’re cooking or reheating a meal for one. I hear that they’re madly collectible now. Luckily I got plenty before the prices jumped.

Hi from rural Queensland, Australia. I am 70 and remember my mother collecting little dishes she called ramicans (? spelling). They came as a bonus gift in the soap powder she used - Surf or Fab. They were really handy for parties for tomato sauce etc. I have one bowl left from my set of mixing bowls (orange and yellow alternate), just like you showed but since I only have one left i do stick it in the dishwasher, really who will care about it when i am gone. loved watching your displays, it would be good to hear your history of why you have such an extensive collection of things. thank you stay safe

I think the reason it has become so popular is that recent years is when people have realized modern pyrex isn’t the same stuff our parents and grandparents used. I just found out our impossible-to-break mixing bowls & casserole dishes I grew up with are PYREX and have resigned myself to collecting the good stuff as I set up my first home lol. I’d rather spend twice as much for these that will last a second lifetime than have to replace my items in a decade.

Oh how much fun it was to see this! I collect Fire King although I do have a few random Pyrex pieces including the pink casserole you showed which is my go-to for tuna casserole. Mostly I collect Fire King's Candleglow or Chanticleer with it's puffed up rooster on the sides. I have casseroles, mixing bowls, custard cups and even a couple mugs which are pretty hard to find. I use mine, but you're correct- NEVER put them in the dishwasher if you don't want them ruined fast! I've always hand washed them and even after all these years they still look about new. I'm still always on the lookout for more even though I have no room left.

I had the green bowl for many years from the set you first showed. I made rice pudding, bread pudding, and Spanish rice in it. I think I took it to some get together and forgot it there. I noticed it missing later and think maybe I took it to work. I learned the hard way not to take my favorite dishes out of the house or lend them. I have lost other favorite items that way. It deserved a eulogy as someone else mentioned here.

Very cool. For some reason, I never saw Fire King, outside of a dinner set my parents had back in the 60's that were the opal glass, color glaze set. My memory of that was hazy as I was a wee tot when they still had it. I have a bunch of the colorware myself, including the flamingo colored pie dish and a cake pan (one has speckles), the square ramikins, both the 12 Oz in yellow, though not in the best of shape, and were that way when I got them. Not chipped but slightly faded, though I do NOT put them in the dishwasher. I have also the red 7 Oz size as well, a red square bowl that I eat out of and have 2 covered square casseroles, both yellow in like new shape. I do have 2 pieces of the Terra, one is the round covered casserole, it was my mothers and a single handleless cup that I use for small utensils. I have 2 refrigerator sets, one is all white, the other is the multicolor set, with all pieces and the lids. The large casserole I use as a cheese box and is yellow. One of the small red containers is for the kosher salt. I do have the multicolor colorware mixing bowl sets in opal glass. Mine has the big bowl in yellow. I think later sets had the green/yellow bowls swapped where the large is green. Most of this I got when you could still find good quality vintage pieces for good prices at estate sales etc over 30 years ago. Enjoy using my stuff when I do.

Kevin this is the end of the article about Pyrex and lead: "We were unable to locate any other information substantiating the claim that vintage Pyrex contained any worrisome levels of lead. All information we could find indicated that the method of production has stayed consistent for 60 years. The FDA began enforcing limits on leachable lead in 1971, and a vintage Pyrex pattern commonly targeted as purportedly high in lead content didn't even go into production until 1972, after all manufacturers were subject to the FDA's new leachable lead standards."

Just checking in on that -- I grew up in a family with a lot of PYREX dishware -- mixing bowls/measuring-cups/baking-dishes -- all vintage '50's/60's -- and still live with it now -- so this is of some interest. Note that there might be some difference between 'PYREX' and 'Pyrex' - ? -- maybe a production change, but seemingly changing at a particular date... I don't know what the facts are, just trying to relay the news that there has been some concern with the product. Ps - not noticing any lead-poisoning symptoms myself at the moment !

I picked up a small and large milk glass bowl by Glasbake for the Sunbeam Mixmaster yesterday. Apparently, some of the older more rare green and yellow bowls glow under a black light because of the uranium in them. They are not just from the atomic era, but actually are atomic(low harmless levels).

@@cynthiafisher9907 I have some Corning plain white plates too. And white coffee ups. Most pcs I got at thrift stores for $4 or less. But I see they sell on line for a lot more.

My mom made macaroni and cheese with stewed tomatoes, and also made baked beans in the big yellow mixing bowl. I'm one of 4 siblings and apparently I'm the only one who liked either dish!

Oh my goodness, I didn't know you had another channel- I'm here from Always Analog and just subscribed! I LOVE PYREX and collect it too! I started around 2015 or 2016. I've inherited many pieces from older relatives, and I pick them up from thrift stores, yard sales, antique stores, etc. They are so beautiful and also so practical, even for basic cooking like making scrambled eggs (the Cinderella mixing bowls are perfect for that!) or as snack bowls for popcorn and chips lol I do a little bit of baking sometimes (basic stuff lol) but it looks like there's all sorts of recipes here on this channel! So happy it found it 😊

Hi thirftyfawn! I'm glad you found my channels, too! Pyrex is great - and like you mentioned it is great for many uses. I scramble eggs in a Pyrex bowl, too! When I have a party I always put out chips, pretzels, etc. in Pyrex. Glad you collect - they are fun! Enjoy!

I was studying them a while back, I do know some of them, and can look up some more of them too! Take care and thanks for the cool upload! Fawn 😊

I have a set of the yellow green red blue set of bowls. I don't use them as they were my mom's. she's been gone almost 2yrs now. The blue broke maybe 20yrs ago but I found a replacement at a thrift store maybe 5yrs ago. I don't know why you don't have more subscribers. I hope to visit your place one day. It's on the bucket list.

The turquoise on white print with rooster and farmer is called Butterprint. 1957-1968. In the later years it was available in Turquoise with white. And yes, the bowls with 2 spouts or handles are called Cinderella. I wonder why.

The friendship pattern was the blue bird with hearts print. Was only avaliable in 1975. My grandmother has a counter saver with that pattern. There is a place on the net that deals in vintage and out of print corningware, Corell among other dishes. I bought a set of those first pyrex mixing bowls. I'll shoot ya a picture of the friendship pattern, what's the best way to send ya pictures? Love the videos Kevin, so awesome you have great family and friends to help you film your videos. If I ever make it to Michigan I'd love to come see cavalcade in person. I'm a sucker for all them old appliances.

We call those glass lidded rectangles "fridgies" we had those growing up and there was a large yellow one a medium-size blue one and two red ones and they all nestled together so that you could store things in the refrigerator

I have quite a bit of American including a fridge set. I like it. I call the pattern at 4:00 Amish Butter Print. I went to Goodwill a couple weeks ago and found a butter dish in Crazy Daisy for less than $2.00. Hadn't been since winter 2020 so I picked the right day to return. I have a bit of that also. I assume the large bowls were used frequently and were broken a lot. You see many 3 bowl sets but not the larger bowl. Autumn Harvest came in a 3 bowl set so other patterns might have also.

Thanks, TW1257 for the info. I think the big bowl is often the one that broke, so you only have a three bowl set remaining.

I have about a dozen Pyrex in pattern and plain. I don't collect it. Just bought what I have because I liked the color and size. I have a bit of Fire King too. And a big collection of Corning Ware in Blue Cornflower. Including the original white electric plate to cook on which do use. I would rather use this older stuff than todays knew. Mostly because I grew up with it and it has a homey feel more than the new.

Funnily enough, we were just sitting down to a supper of "Vintage" shrimp casserole when we got this video in our feed. I have a few Pyrex Early American pieces, mostly the bowls. They came from an auction with the original brochure still inside, so they were never used. Definitely hand wash and I don't put the pieces with metal decoration in the microwave. I do make banana pudding in the #2 bowl and it's a perfect fit. My mom has a lot of Pyrex and Corning Ware and it's never caused any problems from lead and it can go from oven to table to fridge, unlike plastic. Thanks for the Pyrex tour. Have you done one on Corning Ware yet?

Please expand your channel and include a segment on Landline telephones. I had a little antique store and people could not get enough of landline phones, even dial phones, candlestick phones, novelty phones, etc. People use them as conversation peices; I still have a landline phone account. Even Pottery Barn captured part of the market with their "retro style" push button desk phone...
