Vintage Icon VJ74 Fretless Jazz Bass

I may buy this bass as my first fretless, how is the weight (in kg)? also did you installed and aftermarket pickguard?

Hey! The weight is pretty light, I don’t know what it is exactly but it’s not heavy. The neck feels amazing! I had the pickguard lying around so put it on, It looks pretty good.

Beautiful sound man! Are the pickups the Wilkinson? What type of string are you using and what gauge?

Hey Rafael, yes they are the original pickups. Strings are Rotosound yellows, the round wound. 40-60-80-100

Question: Is the fingerboard coated with polyester, epoxy, or some other hard finish, or is it unfinished bare rosewood?

Thanks, yes I had an old pick guard from a jazz bass that I put on it.

Hey John, The bass is set up with a fairly low action, so when I 'dig in' I can control the amount of Mwah fretless sound. You'll notice my right hand is play very lightly to get a nice even tone. The bass is going straight in to my interface. There's no compression or eq but I am using a stereo chorus that then feeds into a stereo plate reverb from a send. The stereo chorus increases the width of the sound and the reverb on the chorus gives the reverb a shimmer which gives it a sense of sweet ear candy.
