So I've got the non relic version of the V100pgm. It looks better and costs less, so winner all round.

The non reliced version (ICON series) is a Lemon Drop, the Reissued version you are refeering to is a Lemon Burst in my eyes. I don't like reliced, I would even pay a hundred bucks more for a non reliced Lemon Drop version, but the Lemon Burst doesn't do it for me *at all*, and I will probably hat to go with the reliced version on this one. Also for the much better hardware (ICON being Vintages top series).

I love relicked stuff! I found a specialist crockery manufacturer who pre-chips all my plates, bowls and mugs. I threw stones at the windows of my house to crack them when I moved in, and I've been dying my hair grey and using special cosmetics to put lines on my face ever since I was 19 years old. Also, I buy my jeans pre-ripped, and trample dirt into all the carpets. Relicking is awesome!

Have to say that I own some beautiful relic guitars and don't consider myself to be a poser! But I do 14:20 agree that the Vintage looks very unconvincing and poorly done. The guitar sounds ok and with treble bleeds would be much more usable. I think the main audible difference is made by the Burstbuckers, which sound superb and are my favourite humbuckers. Great video and as always, well presented.

don't install a treble bleed in the vintage, just change the wiring to 50's. I did it with my v100pgm and the pickups started to breath (for lack of better words)

I have had great experiences with Vintage guitars, although I am not a fan of their relic models (I have nothing against relic work done well). I have the non reliced v100pgm, mick ronson v100 and, my absolute favourite, a vs6 sg model (older model, not the recent offset design). They are great bang for buck

You upgraded the Gibson from what should have already been superior pickups, so pitting it against fairly cheap Wilkinsons (much cheaper than what was originally in that Gibson) was a bit of slanted comparison. Good video as always though!

That vintage would 100% be getting re-finnished in a lovely natural matt. With a bit of work it'd look the dogs danglies. 'Cheaper' geetars have come so far... Great vid n playing as always sir, how is it even with 1 finger giving jip you can still play like a demon? Bloody impressive i tell thee :)

I bought a Lemon Drop when they first came out and I bought a Tribute a year ago. I find the neck profiles quite different. My Vintage is noticeably slimmer than the Gibson. I like them both but I prefer the Gibson. As soon as I played the Vintage I knew it needed a treble bleed cap. A good and fair review John.

I hate new guitars that are reliced it's so false and fake probably only meant for the poseurs. Play the guitar yourself and over time let it age and get dings wear and tear. Much more honest. Would you go into a car showroom and buy a new car that was reliced and pay a premium for it, i think not.

Its really goes back to Keith Richards asking fender to beat up the new guitars that he was getting from them. Before that nobody really did it.. It can take a lifetime to wear some guitars though

I agree if you're going to buy a new guitar then why would you want to buy one all beat up looking ? Makes absolutely no sense. And something else, if I had a high-end Gibson guitar,I would not allow anyone to autograph it I don't care how famous they are. Can you imagine having a $10,000 Gibson and some famous guitar player like slash walking toward it with a magic marker? He better ask before he starts scribbling or else he's be in a lawsuit. With that said I wouldn't be playing right now if it wasn't for him. he is my absolute favorite guitar player but I don't idolize anyone.

A total stupid comparison. Guitarist that must have a shiny looking guitars all the time are not really guitarist. A guitar is just a tool for a job and not a museum piece.

@@colinmcnab6145 I think his comparison was right on point . Actually it was one of the best ways to compare. Just like he was saying if you're going to have a guitar with scratches and dings, it should be something that happens over time with a little history. I don't think anyone mentioned they need a shiny guitar all the time . Could you explain what you were talking about a little further???

I have 3 of the V100s non fake reliced which I hate as well. Have an AFD I got secondhand off a lovely old guy in Taunton who had upgraded the pickups to Toneriders, all the electronics to CTS and bumblebee caps and even fitted Sperzel tuners which don't come cheap. Bought it 2 years ago and all he wanted for it was £130 😍A total bargain and it's been my fave ever since. Vintage make good solid guitars at a great price point and secondhand, even better value as usually around £200 for a decent one. As I know how to fix/mod guitars and have a workshop now, they are great for modding when you get one secondhand especially.

That Gibson Tribute nonsense hasn’t aged well. It literally costs the same as the new Epiphone 59-which comes packed with Gibson appointments. That includes Custombuckers. I can see why they discontinued the Tribute, as no one in their right mind would buy one over the new 59s.

Opinions vary, I suppose. I had the Epi 59 and the Tribute. I prefer the feel of the Gibson. Not keen on the "plastic" feeling finish on those Epiphone guitars.

@@JRobsonGuitar So, irs apparently used by Gibson on their guitars. “For the vintage Gibson guitar lovers out there, the Historic Collection captures the timeless appeal of Gibson’s Golden Era. These are painstaking reproductions of some of the most coveted Gibson guitars, featuring period-accurate appointments without the hefty price tags found in the vintage market. These models, with VOS (Vintage Original Sheen) finishes, have a gently aged appearance, with lightly dulled gloss nitrocellulose finishes and some patina on the hardware.” So it’s not the normal crap used on Epiphones, I believe.
