I have been wearing and collecting vintage Levis 501s for decades, so I have a few comments. First, forget about printing on the pocket, it is really easy to identify vintage Levis. Check the waist tag and if it says "Made in USA" then it is vintage and was made prior to 2000. If it doesn't or has a trademark sign (circle R) after the 501 then it is not made in the USA, is not vintage, and is made from rougher thinner cotton than vintage Levis. Levis quit making orange tab jeans in the 1990s, so all orange tabs are vintage Levis. Levis sizing is pretty consistent, but remember if the jeans are 501xx, rather than 501, then they are shrink-to-fit and will be 1-2 inches smaller in the waist and about 3 inches shorter than indicated on the waist tag. The best looking fade is achieved through wearing and washing dark vintage jeans. That is why vintage jeans have a lot more character and variation, plus they develop nice "tracks" on the outseam. If my jeans get holes in a knee I retire them, but Miss Peach likes to add them.

that one pair is Levis Straus signature series. They are a "cheaper" form of levis sold in places like Walmart. You look amazing in your levis! and I love a girl in 501's

Funny that you mentioned 5 pairs of Levi’s. Last year, In December 2022, I found 5 pair of vintage Levi 501 jeans hung together. They were beautifully distressed. I purchased them for under $8 each and sold 4 of them. But kept a pair which was my favorite. But my vintage Levi collection is also massive.

The Levi’s that are your favorite par is a 900 series pair. I actually work at a Levi’s and I know a lot of the styles. You can tell by the rivets and the outline of the patch. And because the back pockets are smaller and come up higher on the bum. Yeah the 900 series are from the 80’s so that’s cool! I have a pair that I cut into shorts, and they also have a silver tab 😛

Eco thrift store in Sacramento has some nice jeans . I have found 9 Levi’s jeans and still looking 🤗 If you live in California near Sacramento you should visit this second hand store , it’s definitely one of the best !!!

What size are you normally in jeans that aren’t vintage? Asking because I normally wear a 27 in levis but in vintage jeans I just never know what size to get online 😫💞

Jannet Villasenor for vintage Levi’s it depends on the rise. So 501 are a medium rise of 11”(28cm), as for other styles you’ll have to see what’s written on the description. I have a pair of 512 and 551 and they have a rise of 12.2”(31cm) so those hit right at the waist. You’ll need to measure from your crotch to 11” up and then find out your waist size there for 501s. Hope this helps!!

The different tag is because Levi’s made a line of jeans for Walmart and discount stores like that and they made a different tab because they were not the same price point as say real Levi’s you would get at a dept store like Macy’s or the like. That’s also why they do t have the sewing on the pockets they did this way back in the early 00’s when everyone was wearing hollister and Abercrombie and the Levi name lost some popularity amongst the teens and fashion Jean wearing customer base but older generations & some of those who wore jeans as they were meant for work as part of their job you know like in construction and farming work where individuals didn’t want to spend $100 on jeans they were going to ruin with oil, dirt, and stains within a week. Anyway I think that’s where that particular logo tab came from but don’t quarter me I could be wrong! Cute jeans I remember being a size 28-29 in high school and wearing my boyfriends jeans I also had some from middle school when super baggy jeans with pinched rolled legs were in and I lost a lot of weight plus those were baggy so they barely would stay on my hips once o lost the baby fat weight I cut mine off and rolled the top of the waist over so they would fit, I think they were 501 me s size 33 and I buttoned them up then rolled that waist over itself so they stYed on and I wore those 2 pair of jeans over my bikinis or crop tops until they fell apart and I could no longer sew or patch them together I miss those shorts so much they were my FAVORITE! Ofcourse back in that time they were not the style everyone was wearing gap and Abercrombie or CK. I also grew up on a farm and rode horses and I had the most awesome pair of bootcit wranglers that were like the ones wore in the 1st footloose movies 8n the 80’s oh those jeans made my bum look so perfect but like everything else they disappeared my sister called me a redneck & told me they were too country for me to be wearing around campus in ATL so one day when I was home for break they disappeared from my bag I know she snagged them and threw them away! I just couldn’t prove it! Still have yet to find another pair of those jeans in that cut and style plus the wear was perfect fading wise from being in the saddle.
