When I 1st started playing with Micronauts as a kid... I used to wonder how cool it would have been to have a 'crossover' game with the Mego Apes! (Which were long gone!) How envious I am at the Japanese kids who got the opportunity!

I'd like to believe that Time of the Apes takes place in the same timeline as Heston's, just showing us how it was in Japan.

I like that theory.

Fabulous video, Brian, that was really interesting to watch. Like yourself, I really love 70's Japanese toy packaging, it's an artform all in itself, and deciphering it can yield some very strange translations indeed.

Love your videos, Brick. I'm not a collector, but as a designer I see tremendous value in what you're showing. And I think the look and feel of all of these 70s toys you show could be rebuilt in 3D for VR, so that when VR is here IN FULL there will be worlds awaiting people who love a particular collection. And even for people who aren't familiar with those toy line collections. People could either witness-externally or internally (first person style)-stories unfolding within those worlds...or take part in games. Do you think MEGO people might be interested in something like this? Stories and Games based on 70s look and feel toys? It wouldn't take much to get it going. No tooling needed. All digital.

They seem to be very good condition boxes, so probably worth what you paid for them. I'm not a carded guy, but they look very nice. Congratulations! It's strangely comforting to know that there were Japanese kids who were likely jealous of the toys that we got for once. Lol!

Fun fact: The official international title of “Saru no Gundan” is “Army of the Apes”, but it translates literally as “Monkey Corps” 😆

@@BrickMantooth To be fair, that show had actual monkey characters in the cast (specifically baboons and mandrils). (Also of note was the Gibbon child).
