I am completely obsessed with bakelite and lucite bangles. I buy all I can afford and sell a lot of them. I don't have any in my personal collection, but I do wear the ones I have until they sell. I got my first piece of cellulose recently, a scotty dog brooch. I love Moon Glow. I have some and have sold some. Your necklaces are gorgeous! I could stare at them all day and never get any work done. if I had them. Finding a lucite bracelet with bugs is on my bucket list, as is an Alexis Bittar bangle, a laminated bangle, a Sobral bangle, and a reverse-carved bangle. I know i can buy all of these on eBay, but I love hunting for them. I can't wait for part 2!

Oh! What is your feeling about epoxy resin in comparison? The first time I used it (about 20 yrs ago I worked in the film biz) I had to buy it at a special affects warehouse. “Polyester Resin”. It is almost impossible to find as Bakelite yellows with age…. So it is likely that the white bangle you saw was not Bakelite. But it’s possible if it was stored in the correct way like mine was. Thanks for watching!

You have some really interesting pieces. I am thinking that bakelite only comes in like the 1970s colors, like green, gold, orange, yellow... but I saw your black bingo cards. Do you think it comes in other colors? Live the multi tiered blue beaded necklace and the cherry ones the best! 😁

@TheFunkyPickleThrifter2 жыл бұрын
It does actually look sort of opaque! I've done it in some of my videos, but I don't know which ones. The best way to know is to have a piece you know isn't amber, and then put the UV light on each and see if there's a difference. Thanks for watching as always.

I don't understand why plastic jewelry is so valued when things like Blue Tiger Eye, Red Tiger Eye, Gokd Tiger Eye, and hybrid variations of the three exist and are plentiful enough for everyone to have... and that is just one type of gemstone, Chalcedony quartz coating crocidolite fibers. There are PLENTY of REAL gemstones that even a homeless person can afford, depending on the quality of course. There is some Tiger Eye out there that gets very expensive due to it being of very high quality material

your $2600 bracelet is made of Catalin plastic resin - NOT Bakelite - Leo Baekeland had nothing to do with Catalin - Dr Fritz Pollak invented Catalin in 1926 - no such nonsense as expired patents. Catalin had its own patents. if you are an expert - call it by its correct name - Catalin - everything you show [except the lucite/celluloid] are cast resins and are either Catalin or Marblettte or Fiberlon - all originating from Fritz Pollak formulas - NOT Leo.
@TheFunkyPickleThrifter Жыл бұрын
Yes, all true. Catalin is often referred to as Bakelite in this business and has been for many years. Misnomers run rampant in jewelry and terms are often (for lack of a better term) dumbed down. I see clear plastic being called Lucite when it may or may not be, brooches being called Jelly Bellies, which in fact they are not since they are not made by Trifari, etc. etc. etc. Thank you for watching.
