I made a detailed playlist with several videos of the restoration process of a 1983 Rossin Record bicycle. This video is a overview of all the videos, plus the final bits that I recently acquired. I started this project at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. If you're interested in a very detailed version of the project, check out the playlist here: • 1983 Rossin Record Cam...

Good to see you're back. Brought back a lot of memories of bikes I worked on in the 80s. Still have some of the old tools like the crank puller. I'm so old I remember Cinelli stems and Benotto handlebar tape and Avocet computers.🤣🤣

I still ride a bike with Cinelli stem (X1) and bars and an original Avocet cyclometer! (And I still have an unopened pack of Benotto tape in my toolbox!)

Nothing looks better than a Cinelli stem. I look at the new bikes and shudder.

What a beautiful bike! I worked in a cycle shop for a couple of summers and did some racing in the mid 1970's. Back then the Holy Trinity were Colnago, Masi, and De Rosa. That Rossin looks to be every bit as good as those. You have some interesting tools we didn't have back then, but I still have my Campagnolo cone wrenches and a few others.

Great video! Did you just use water to get the brake hoods on?
@JoeyMesa
@JoeyMesa Жыл бұрын
Well, truth be told, Yes I just used water because at the time that's all I had! Ideally, I like to use isopropyl alcohol. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Hey Joey, what a coincidence! I’m working on a friend’s bike equipped with the Campagnolo Centaur group from the 1990s I guess. Servicing the freehub was a nightmare and I couldn’t take the bb out because I didn’t have the appropriate tool (BBT-5 I think). Anyway, great job on that Rossin. Hope it was worth it. Be well!

Thanks Denis! Yes, The Park tool BBT-5/FR-11 is the tool you need. It works for Campagnolo cassettes and Bottom brackets, so a handy tool to have in the toolbox!

@@JoeyMesa Freehub service nightmare: when I removed the cone on one side, the freehub came off. You need a special tool from Campagnolo to keep the pawls and spring in place to put the freehub back in place. Needless to say, I did not have the tool. Had to use a small elastic band that I had to cut with small scissors once the freehub was in place. Keep those videos coming.

Oh, I'm familiar with those campy free hubs. I used to work at a shop years back that had the tool. Dental floss works great in a pinch though!

!WARNING! Balls are designed to PUSH 80% OF THE GREASE, OUT THE WAY. Do you understand that? When balls roll through grease they push most of the grease OUT THE WAY. The next time the ball rolls through the grease, the ball pushes the remainder amount of grease, out the way. When the ball returns to roll through the grease for a 3rd time, there's NO lubrication applied to the ball. The whole point 👉 to having a continuous line of spinning balls is to always have spinning balls. 😳 An endless line of spinning balls. Can YOU stand up on a floor full of tiny metal balls? No, you can't. Those balls keep spinning under your feet. You need to have a ball and race setup but balls don't like lubrication. The engineers know this information so they hardened the balls. Hardened balls push 90% of the lubrication, out the way. Lubrication must get shoved out the way and fall back under the ball the next time it rolls around. At the most, you only want to add 30% lubrication into the race. Your lubrication is above 90% in the race. You will increase rolling ability by 32% if you reduce the amount of lubrication in those ball races. Try the ball race without any lubrication, just hand spinning the ball race. Notice how it spins cause the balls spin. Now put in 20% grease. Notice how the balls spin freely but you can feel some grease slipperiness. Add 50% lubrication and Notice how the balls are no longer spinning freely. Increase the grease percentage to 70% and notice the balls have stopped spinning in the race. Bearing manufacturers say no more than 30% grease. It's a line of spinning balls that repeats on to infinity. So you grease up to 20-30% grease level cause THE BALLS SHOVE 85% OF THE GREASE out of the way. When it's getting pushed out of the way, the soap 🧼 causes the oil to stick to the ball.

No, I'm too old to do those millennial bike videos. It seems like people are into the ASMR type videos that don't really tell you much, but show a quick glimpse of the process. I thought it would be fun to make one, but if you've looked at other videos on my channel, you'll find I'm pretty much all over the place. I make videos that I feel like making, or if someone asks for a request, I'm generally happy to oblige.

I’m not vanity driven like that. Repainting the bike won’t increase the functionality, but it definitely costs a good chunk of money. I kind of like the character of the bike as is.
