This video series is the story of a restoration project of a vintage Audition electric guitar. Made in Japan in the early 1970s, this guitar was sold in Woolworths in the United Kingdom. I owned one myself which was purchased in 1973.
The guitar I am restoring was sold under the name Audition. There were a few models available at the time and some solid state (transistor) guitar amps were sold along side them.
According to Frank Meyers' book History of Japanese Electric Guitars, Kawai and Sakai made guitars sold under the Audition label. Sakai exported to Europe so I believe this to be a Sakai manufactured guitar, not Teisco as often supposed.
The guitar in the video I purchased on eBay (in a sorry state) and have lovingly restored it to better than new play-ability.
Anyone wishing to restore one of these guitars or any other similar MIJ guitar of the period should find this information very useful and be able to navigate through the restoration using this video series as a guide. Should you do so, please subscribe to the channel, leaving a thumbs up and comment as you see fit.
