When they were new captives in San Diego, Kotar & Katina (along with Kasatka & Canuck 2) were rotated thru the dolphin petting pool. Visitors could play with them unsupervised. Katina was sent to the Aurora OH SeaWorld during the summers & wasn't around that much. Kotar & Kasatka were frequently together. They were all very friendly & gentle. Kotar was the mischievous one. He would slide on top of the pool wall & squirt visitors with a mouthful of water. They became friends with some repeat visitors & could recognize them even among hundreds of other people. It was a couple years after they became full time performers that they turned aggressive.

I am anti-captivity, but some of you are just cruel. These animals are here, whether or not you like it. They cannot go anywhere else. Sea pens for most of them would not help them in the long run. This is what they are used to, and even though you know what is out there, they don't. They don't know how to live that way. I dislike them in captivity, but we still need to be providing them with the best lives, love, and care while they are in captivity. Not everything they do is horrible. It is obvious the trainers love these animals. Stop harassing these individuals for corporate flaws. Open your mind up to all sides of a argument, and let yourself think rationally before you decide to say some of the things you all do.

Males in the wild live to be 30, while females live to be 45. but that's just the average. and Granny, the orca that was said to be 103, was NOT 103. they guessed her age, based on her "son" J1, Ruffles. it was revealed later, through dead skin and breath samples, that they where NOT actually related. her age estimate was bumped down to somewhere between 80 and 90 (still really fucking old) a few years before her death. if this where human years, 80-90 would be like 120, something like that. 103 would be up over 130. simply illogical.

You must not have looked into them much, then. It's not so much that the whales hate the trainers, it's that they're fed up and aggravated of being in a tank their entire lives. Killer whales don't deserve to be in what is the equivalent to a bath tub to humans for their entire lives.

But these shows arnt what they need and they arnt educational. This is not what wild orcas do, surely you can see that

At the end of the day, a group of whale hunters separated these orcas from a family of their own, put them in captivity in a swimming pool sized confinement when these mammals travel lengths and depths of mother earth itself, established an award system of "food for tricks" and enslaved them in a circus act for profit. Ask me if you think I feel bad when they turn the tide on you. These mammals, these magnificent creatures have communication systems designed to travel the entire globe in the WORLDS OCEANS. If one is hurt, beached, injured and cannot survive in the wild I support sanctuary in a second chance at life situation. The circus act has gotta go.

@caitlynkelly88596 жыл бұрын
Granny did not live to be 105. she was actually in her late eighties, early nineties. they estimated her age by her "son" Ruffles. DNA samples later proved they where not in fact related and Granny's age was bumped down to somewhere around 90. that's still incredibly old for an orca (females usually live to be 45) but not the 105 that people claim she lived. I mean, of course Granny never died of a miscarriage. or stress, or a mosquito bite or anything else, since you can only die once you know. Nami and Hugo did not commit suicide actually, there is no scientific proof of any animal except humans being able to plan and execute their own death. Nami ate rocks out of boredom and Hugo had seizures. not suicide. and Kandu 5 is the only whale in captivity to ever die from violence. I don't know where you got Knootka and Kandu 7 from. it's unknown Knootka's cause of death, but she died at 4, so i doubt it was violence. Kandu 7 died from unknown causes as well. both of them most likely died of pneumonia, not violence. in the wild, hundreds of whales die from Mosquito bites, miscarriages, stress, violence and other terrible things.

SeaWorld doesn't seem at all what it used to be. I'm not entirely sure of the extent this footage is propaganda, for all we known the orcas where chasing the humans for food(?), but the orcas seem happy back then. I suppose after a decade in the same environment and even less human interaction than used to be allowed a change in behaviour is expected. Also did anyone notice the girl at 2:11 who either looked like she was at a rock concert, telling the orca she loves it in sign language or presenting her love for satan?

where have they secretly opened in China? they said a while ago that they WANTED to open a park in China (since all the parks over there are kinda shit) but didn't, because they are standing by their pledge not to capture/breed anymore orcas. oh my, vintage. Probably when I was little based on the background, so circa mid-1980s? I recently saw the dolphin show in Atlanta and sobbed (but tried to hide it), remembering seeing my first show like it when I was little at SeaWorld. It's hard to say, the animals do seem very happy. Feels a bit the way I feel about domesticated dogs. We've bred them to depend on us...perhaps we've bred some of the most magnificent creatures of the ocean to depend on us. Whether this is good or bad, I could not even begin to answer.
@ShadowLightMewEndlessOceanMew8 жыл бұрын
It's good for the most part since breeding them and observing them in human care brought a halt to the eradications that happened long ago and added missing pieces to the research and studies done in the wild since you can't follow them 24/7 in the ocean. Science needs both worlds to learn. Today neonates can be saved as well when on time which wouldn't be possible without breeding since they wouldn't have samples of their milk as a basis for formulas.

Whales die in the wild all the time. - Orcas in the wild have collapsed dorsals as well,more common in captivity though. The dorsal has no bone,therefore it can bend and flop over. Cause? The cause is from spending lots of time at the surface,to where gravity has an effect to bend it. It has nothing to do with their health,depression,etc. And that's a very sad assumption to make.

no, i think breeding made it better. if it wasn't for breeding, SeaWorld would of taken more orcas from the wild to keep up their pod. if anything, breeding brought the pods closer together so, similar to a small wild pod, everyone was related. it got bad, i think, when artificial insemination was added. i see why they did it, so orcas wouldn't inbreed, but it just doesn't sit right with me.

This generation of orcas were captured in the most horrific ways, so for those who want this to return or miss it just ask yourself is all of the above worth it just to amuse & entertain you for an hour?! Animals aren't alive for human amusement. If you see an animal performing they are being ab*sed to obtain that performance. EMPTY THE TANKS.

I can understand how people about SeaWorld but if you don't like it don't go! I personally like SeaWorld and can't wait to take my kids this summer but people who dislike SeaWorld most just sit and complain like that's gonna do a damn thing
@e.d.e.81378 жыл бұрын
+Young.Mommy Kayla Well, all of that complaining got SW to end their breeding program. i say that's getting quite a bit done. As for going to SW, fine it's your choice. Next time you are taking a bath though imagine living in it 24/7/365.
@young.mommykayla67998 жыл бұрын
Eyrika E. No not really, it was mostly Blackfish and boycotting. Complaining hardly ever gets anywhere. I'll imagine what ever, I'm sorry to say the whole bathtub reference doesn't tug at my heart strings as it does for others neither does eating meat and hanging with vegans watching slaughter house videos. Maybe boycotting and what ever will get SeaWorld to close within the next few years probably why I plan on taking my kids in a few weeks and I'm fine with sw getting shut down.

Young.Mommy Kayla That is what I meant by "complaining". Sorry to hear you don't have the ability to empathize with others, sucks for your kids. Also, I'm not a vegan, vegetarian or an animal activist.

Eyrika E. I can empathize for others but well I'm mostly a human person and a dog person, don't feel sorry for my kids they have it good! I didn't say you were just that Peta talks about sw and going vegan neither of which I care to protest against because I like sw and I'm going to eat meat

these guys where not the first batch. and you must remember, if it wasn't for captivity, orcas would be seen as killers that should be shot on sight to save ones life.

These whales should be out in the wild, not performing tricks with humans
@ShadowLightMewEndlessOceanMew8 жыл бұрын
They can't be wild though. Almost all of SeaWorld's Orcas were born in human care. They also have 3 generations in their care. I am grateful we still have Orcas today. They would have died out if it wasn't for the first captured Orcas. I disagree with captures like all pro caps do but it was a necessary evil to counter the nonsense stories from whalers who claimed they were monsters dragging humans from the land into the water to eat. The military used them for target practice until the first animals were captured and they finally wanted to research the species.

victoria now your info is just weird. Firstly seaworld haven’t taken a single whale since 40 years and they only took-in one whale. THEY DONT TAKE WHOLE PODS NO ONE DOES THAT who ever told you that is weird, or stupid or trying to spread rumours

They don't do tricks anymore. Now they have an even more boring life due to all the sensitive people out there.

***** You're welcome? I've always been against Sea World. My videos have always been neutral with an anti slant to them, or flat out anti. I'm not sure why you're so surprised. If it bothers you, you can always block my channel and ignore my uploads.

+Jo Orca Whisperer. I think it is important to know, especially if the truth is disturbing. How can problems be fixed, if they are never brought to the light?
@chrissieroxba29498 жыл бұрын
+Holland Carson ALL SeaWorld cares about at the end of the day is MONEY! Orca tricks..Orca sperm.. Stealing Orca babies.. It makes me SICK! Luckily SeaWorld is recognizing the MAJORITY of people don't want to see this monstrosity anymore and is shutting down the killer whale show (so far only one location I believe) it's a start...

The animals are beautiful, there’s no denying the beauty of these magnificent animals! I had a similar experience as little girl pressed up against the glass looking at the trainer working with the orca. It was a night show with shamu and no one was in the stadium. I went down to the tank and looked for any signs of movement. All of a sudden, a huge whale swam right by me with its baby 😱. Now that I’v learned the truth about these wonderful creatures, I do think this circus act needs too stop! Standing on the face of a killer whale isn’t educational! Also seeing the tank up close when I was little and in this video just clarifies what I already know; and that is the tank is way too small! 😔🙏🏻
