And yet they still keep orcas in captivity in habitats like that. What a joke

It was so much better then. Such a shame everything that has happened. SeaWorld could still be like this.

almost half of the world’s orca populations are doomed to extinction because of Pollution. SeaWorld captures these animals to rescue them from such harmful substances and dangers in the ocean. They are not “fOrCiNg them to do tricks for fish in TiNy bathtubs”. They are taking great care of the killer whales and trying to help keep the killer whale population. You guys want them to dump these whales in the polluted toxic ocean just to fit your agenda?? Stop believing pixels on a screen. #SeaWorldCares

Corky II first calf lived less than a month! The year was 1977. Now, here we are in 2024 and poor Naya just lost her 3 and 1/2 week old calf. 💔
@KimberlyMessina-yu5fc10 ай бұрын
A few days ago I read that Naya's calf passed. It just break's my heart, Naya is all by herself grieving, and I read she was in labor for 10hrs. Corky was pregnant 7 times and none of her babies lived past 47 days. Didn't people see the orca that carried her deceased calf for almost 3 weeks if that isn't grief I don't know what is. I am so worried about Naya's welfare are they keeping her or sending her to another facility.

Hi, I'm a member of the Current Affairs and Culture Team at SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System). Our team is in the process of planning a four-part documentary series called "Whales and Me," which is set to air from November 18th to December 10th, 2023. Through this documentary, we aim to showcase the "Extraordinary World of Whales" and shed light on the "Global Crisis Revealed Through Whales and Life and Death." I'm wondering if we could include part of this video in our documentary for full credit. We won't use this video for commercial purposes. Plz let me know if it's okay to use it. Thank you.

Corky is a member of the Northern Resident orca community. She is from the A5 pod, A23 matriline. She has family in the wild - sister Ripple, brother Fife, niece Midsummer, great-nephews Fern and Ne'nakw, and great-niece Eliot.

While on one hand a relief that it may not of felt it- it's sad that when they restrain the calf there's no real reaction from it. No thrashing or calling for mom - it just idles with almost no flinch response to the "stimulant" injection

Shamu was most of the time pretty friendly, but she’d easily get into moods, and you cannot blame her. The tank she lived in was too damn small to fit an orca in there LET ALONE TWO OF THEM!
@EquineMetalhead Жыл бұрын
The story of Shamu is so tragic. Shamu was born in 1961 off of Puget Sound when in 1965 she was captured. Her mother was shot with a harpoon gun and died right in front of her. Shamu was taken the the Seattle Marine Aquarium to be a companion for Namu. However, the two didn’t like each other so Seaworld bought her. The first Seaworld park was in San Diego and that’s where she went. She was the first orca to travel by airplane. She was named Shamu, because She + Namu = Shamu. She was usually pretty sweet, but she’d easily get agitated. She had a companion named Ramu and Kilroy. Ramu and Shamu mated and he was sent to Orlando, the second park to open. Kilroy stayed until she died. In 1971 Shamu attacked a young lady named Annette Eckis and rode Shamu for a stunt performance. Shamu was fine the first lap but the second time Annette got on and went halfway around the pool, she slipped and fell off, and Shamu grabbed her thigh and sunk her teeth in. Her mouth had to be pried open with a pole. Annette had to get 200 stitches. They blamed it on Annette being a woman and wearing a bathing suit when really Shamu got fed up and lost her temper. Later that year, Shamu died. Shamu was only ten years old, and the baby who she was pregnant with, died also. Shamu left a legacy behind just like Namu and their names were used in shows as stage names for the killer whales, Shamu is now at peace with her mother, Rest In Peace Shamu. Gone, but never forgotten.

Such a sad story. Killer Whales are so sweet. Namu was a sweetheart. When Namu died he was only eleven cause he was ten when he was bought. Namu was 9,000 pounds and 21 feet long. He was a big boy. A book was also written about him, it was called My Friend Namu. It was published in 1966. Namu and Shamu’s names were used as a stage name for the killer whales at Seaworld. Namu left a legacy behind that will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace Namu.

It was a blessing and a curse. The blessing was that people realized that orcas are not vicious man eaters, but are intelligent and friendly and we have no reason to fear them. The curse is that it pretty much kickstarted the orca capture business.
