Sheffield and South Yorkshire all depend and support each other though industry's Rotherham and Sheffield had Steal to make machines so more coal could be mined this coal was mined in Doncaster and Barnsley Doncaster could use it to help locomotive repairs and could transport more steal to export it was perfect example of Co Operation between industry and business each town also had its market most notable Doncaster Market and Castle gate market public transport was put first and public goods there was a feeling of youthful modernism as Sheffield is known for its university Doncaster is known for Locomotives and new design think your A4 Pesiffc (Marlad) sadly problay the reason we don't feel the same anymore is because industrialisation unites people to work together seversis only divide

@danprecious4583 Seriously, Sheffields changed and not for the better, can't walk through without nearly everything boarded up , the shops were better,then there's the begging, the crime , you could drive around anywhere back then , sorry but the centre was much more vibrant back then its a shadow of it's former self

I queued 24hrs outside that shop" Ratners" winter 1982, to secure the Gold ladies watch they had in the sale(it was a fraction of the normal price). Managed to get it & gave it to my Mum. She still wears the watch to this day & turns 93 next year !. She still has the photograph of me being presented with it by the shop manager!. Happy days, left Sheffield in 1994 but still love the City. Live out the stcks now, don't think i will ever move back, but one of the nicest Cities in the Uk. Love Sheffield, it will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Nice to see this. I had friends at the university in the early 80s and was a regular visitor particularly around 1983-84. I have fond memories of places like Rebels (rock club), The Limit, The Museum pub (demolished in the 80s), The Frog & Parrot, & The Leadmill.

Rebels was the best club in town, Wapentake the beat pub, Sheffield will never be the same without these.

I studied in Sheffield in the 1960's and loved every minute of my six years there. Several years I worked the long vacations as a labourer at Steel, Peech and Tozer during their annual maintenance and other vacations and nights and weekends at jobs in pubs, hotels, factories, Marks and Spencer and the GPO for Christmas sorting, so I came in close contact with many Sheffield natives in all walks of life. I found them all to be friendly, helpful and generous of spirit. What free time I did have, I spent rockclimbing and hiking on your beautiful moors or eating and drinking with other students in the Roman Room. Ah, Happy Days! This video shows me that, unfortunately, the city centre, like my old hometown of Coventry, has lost its old charm. Best wishes from the Land Down Under. 👍🙏

I remember the hole in the road used to have a large Xmas tree in it at Christmas and had access to the shops and a couple of fish tanks built in if I remember correctly.
@Xoferif3 жыл бұрын
I remember there used to be a couple of shops actually inside it - there used to be a little record shop and a shop that sold general housewares. Maybe a little newsagents/tobacconists counter as well? **Sigh**... The centre's all very posh now, but it doesn't have nearly as much character as it used to have.
