The Six Million Dollar Man Bionic Repair Station is one of those cool toys I remember playing as a kid but never owning. Now thanks to a very kind donation from Alan I have the remains of the set to rebuild. And we can rebuild it!
There are lots of areas to fix and a few parts to make from scratch. Let's get fixing.

👏 I could have done with this video in the 70s: still clearly remember my over-excited and sugar-loaded friends breaking various bits on my just-opened repair station at my birthday party. Not that I still hold a grudge 44 years and 8 months later of course…!

This playset has a lot of charm. I am not very familiar with these toys but it's the kind of thing I would have liked as a child. It really encourages imaginative play. Maybe in a future video you can create a custom version with one of your spares. More stickers, maybe some NASA stickers for the rocket, or maybe a bionic woman version although it is shaped to Steve Austin.

I had that as a child. As for the rocket boosters, you are supposed to rotate it in order to remove, not just pull it off the clips. I remember that from the instructions. Probably best to do so given the age of that plastic.

Great repair of a brilliant toy, Dave. I would be seriously tempted to stick the computer dials on some thin styrene or perspex sheet, before cutting them out, which would make them more rigid, and less prone to being rounded off by use.

'Poor man's lathe'. Protect the 'pin' of the home made connector with masking tape. Put the protected pin in the chuck of a variable speed power drill. Medium slowly rotate the connector and hold the nail file on the edge to 'true up' the disc to make it very circular. Don't go to fast, and it wont melt!

Hi Great job of the restoration to the six million dollar man Repair station you've done a super job !!👍 Not mentioned was the missing plastic lens in the Base of the rocket that doubles up as a Overhead light unit this lens adds magnification . Also I have found that back in the day Poor old Steve's hair colour gets rubbed off the back of his head over time When you play with him in and out of the repair station Something to watch out for.😢

I remember getting this for Xmas 1977 as I was a huge Bionic Man fan and Star Wars had only just been released so I didn’t see it until early 78. I stupidly left the rocket by the side of the fire at my Auntie’s on Boxing Day and the bottom of the rocket warped slightly due to the heat so the base never fit properly again 🤦‍♂️😂 Liking the Blake’s 7 style intro btw 👍🏻

Great video as usual Dave and great tips on making the connectors. I remember wanting one of these as a child and recently was fortunate enough to get hold of one which I have restored. There are actually 2 versions of the suggested sticker placements as the Kenner version of the instruction sheet is slightly different from The Denys Fisher version that was available in the UK. There is also a small plastic magnifier that fits in the middle of the rocket engine/Light array which lets you inspect those bionic modules in more detail. There are plenty of great options for replacing the magnifier lens. For it's time this was a really awesome play set and perhaps one of the templates for future Kenner play sets. I can't recall anything quite like it back then.

I wish I had kept my rocket ship and Six Million Dollar Man. We had just moved to a small rental and I didn't have room to store them. I gave them both away to a local antique store 25 years ago. I wanted to sell them but they wouldn't give me any money for either toy. Both were pretty worn out and the rocket ship was missing parts; now that I have a son, I know that he would greatly enjoy playing with them. My wife keeps telling me that I can't keep everything. She is right, but it's one of the regrets that I have.

Man now this brings back great memories definitely on my birthday in 1975 I received this along with my Steve Austin and we had many many great aventures... Interesting part is that most people don’t realize there are two versions of this the initial one released in 1975 with the advertisement on the side panel of the Engine block photo illustration. Then again in 1977 it was released but this time the side panel illustration had the bionic grip with the I-beam illustration..

Instead of felt, next time you could use permanent vinyl sheet that comes in the rolls for cutting on a Cricut. You get a closer match and would have matched the plastic feel if the clips.

*CONFESSION TIME* - As a young teen (or so), around 1990 - I bought one of the figures at an antique/junk shop, and it was broken, and in terrible shape. The eye thing didn't work, the action feature didn't work. And I... I *attempted* a repair. And I failed, to horrific results. The torso is glued together, my pre/teen brain solution? "Well, I'll just 'hot-knife-cut' that apart and open it up!" 😬😣😫😑😔 But, in all fairness - in 1990, that would be the same as a pre-teen today cutting up an already half-wrecked toy from 2005. So - *LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES KIDS OF TODAY!* - Practice on the truly unrestorable, or figures of no consequence, or let a pro like Tony do it.

I absolutely love this line and series. The playset may be fiddly but it looks very impressive on display and has quite a lot of play options. It was like a Transformer before Transformers🤷‍♂️ Also, I had a similar childhood experience with the Fisher Price Adventure People Alpha Probe Shuttle. I always wanted one but the closest I could get was playing with one that was in the toy chest at the child care facility I attended. Despite not owning one, some of my fondest and most vivid childhood memories are with it. I should look into buying one of my own now that I’m an adult…🤔

Have you thought about making new disks out of sheet styrene? You could print out your scans and apply them as stickers to the styrene disks. I know that would be different from how the toy was originally constructed but it would be a lot sturdier than the paper disks. I'd worry that the hexagon holes would wear out again over time.
