Seconding the "What happened?" because so far it sounds absolutely insane. Since when does copyright work that way? People have been getting permission to reproduce copyrighted photos and text in books for a while now. Rights holders have been selling and otherwise losing those rights to new owners for a while now. And maybe that means you have to get permission from the new owner if you want to *republish* that book. But I'm pretty sure new rights holders have not been able to retroactively withdraw permission for use in books that are *already published.* What, would they go to all the libraries and homes and offices that had a copy of the book and seize it? "Former rights holder granted permission for a flat fee, but we're holding out for a dollar per copy. Until the publisher coughs it up, we just can't allow you to read this one any more. So sorry." If that was a thing, you'd think you would have heard about it. Has ever a court ruled that all the royalties from the whole book now belong to the new owner of one photo previously licensed to appear on page 17? What's the jurisprudence if the book uses *two* licensed photos from different owners? Does the whole thing go to whoever makes the asshole move first? There *is* no jurisprudence for that, *because it's crazier than a honey badger on PCP.* Does copyright actually work like that now, or did KZbin just hire the stupidest intellectual property lawyers in the world?

Woo! Glad to have you back! You need to do what you love, don't let people tell you otherwise. Whenever I've felt useless (or been told it), I've always gone back on my successes. You're a published author, twice! You've had videos seen by over 1M people. That's amazing! Most people just say they're going to do these things, you've done them. There are new YT tools that allow you to remove the music while keeping audio. That may help with monetisation of old videos.

Re background music; why should that be needed? I'd think once you *buy* the rights to use music, that whoever you bought those rights from wouldn't be able to claw them back in order to sell them to someone else. If they can, then you never *owned* them in the first place and if the original seller implied you did, then that would seem to be some kind of false advertising or even fraud. Via Hanlon's razor, I'm going to guess that the new owner just din't bother checking if the users had the rights to use the music and claimed everything. That seems very believable, either via ignorance or lazyness, or just assuming under the assumption that many people won't notice or push back.

@@SgtMjr The problem is if they bought the music, it's hard to imagine how they also didn't acquire the obligations and licenses already issued for that intellectual property. It's also ludicrous, and likely intentionally dishonest on the part of the claimant. If the music was previously licenced by Amy from the then copyright owner, that doesn't just get nullified because they sold the *remaining* rights to a 3rd party. The rights Amy bought weren't part of that deal. Drachinifel has a similar problem with intentional false claims on a piece of music he had the creators permission to use. This was on every video, and in the end the musician just gave up fighting to get control of his own work back one a week from a multinational abusing the copyright system. Which means drach now uses something else as an intro.

It’s great to see you back, and for what it’s worth, I have always enjoyed your long form, detail-rich space launch/exploration and aerospace-adjacent content, especially the less covered Project Gemini, Soviet programs, and other topics. Personally, I really enjoyed the aerospace espionage series including Corona, U-2, and A-12 programs. As an engineer working in space launch, I appreciate how much research you have done to get the technical details and nomenclature correct while still making the topic accessible to a non-technical audience. It sucks that Fighting For Space had a bad launch-it’s a great book-and getting demonitized because of copyright issues you weren’t responsible for and have no control over is terrible, albeit typical for KZbin. You should look into putting content onto another channel like Nebula that doesn’t hamstring and arbitrarily penalize creators who are just trying to make high quality videos. But regardless, it’s good to see you (and Pete) back, and I look forward to hearing more about the new book project and longer form videos on aerospace history at whatever rate you are comfortable producing them.

So glad to see you back! I’m a 67 year old “Cold War kid” who grew up in a suburb of Cincinnati where GE Aircraft Engines was the major employer and visits to the Air Force Museam were regular day trips for our family. I am so sorry to hear about the difficulties you faced as an author and content creator. I really would like to get a copy of your book “Fighting for Space”,

Vintage Space has been an amazing series; so much fascinating space history that I had no idea about. I fear that the algorithms will be quite different to even 3 years ago though; and hope it doesn't lead to too much clickbait and short-form content.

from what I noticed, the censorship increased; even within the comments. KZbin tries hard to become super meek.

Yay! I'm so sorry, it's been so long I had almost forgot I was subscribed! You just stopped popping up in my feed that I forgot it existed. I'm glad you're back and totally understand your absence. I can't wait to see your future videos. As someone who grew up in Florida near Kennedy Space Center, I was fascinated by Space exploration and Astronomy my entire childhood. Also, here's a little something neat for you to read. I'm the son of one of the few managers of the to run the Shuttle Landing Facility on Kennedy. My father, Robert B. (went by Bob his adult life) was the manager of that facility where the Shuttle Landed in Florida from 1995 until 1999 under EG&G, the contractor that NASA hired to run it. Later, when Northrop Grumman won the contract bid in 1999, he was laid off, but was asked to return a year later by that company as they realized, in a nutshell, that my dad could do it better. So, he came back and ran the facility along with the Skidstrip at Cape Canaveral and the main airfield at the then Patrick Air Force Base (the base in which he retired from the Air Force at when I was 14) until the Shuttle Program was shut down. A sad day as he was once again laid off. Still, that was an amazing experience as a kid, I got to ride my bike on the runway the Shuttle landed on! My dad was friends with Astronauts, and one of them even came to my Eagle Scout ceremony! My father, a 25 year USAF veteran worked for the VA helping other vets until his passing in 2014. Thanks for reading my family's contribution to American Space Travel. Again, I can't wait to see more of your videos!

Hi, Amy! Thank you for the update on how you've been doing. Whenever your old videos would pop up, I wondered how you were. I had seen some of your previous posts about what happened to Fighting for Space, so I understood you were going through challenging times. I'm sorry to hear it was more complicated behind the scenes and affected you deeply. I'm glad you're giving yourself a fresh start. You deserve good things in life! Keeping fighting for your space!

When a person hits a wall in life they have 3 choices, quit, go a different direction, or plow through. Quitting is the only wrong choice but it's not wrong to take a long pause to consider the next direction. Sounds like you're about to plow through but feel free to veer in any direction you want. Sometimes it doesn't make much money but do your best at what makes you happy because trying to make everyone else happy will usually leave you unhappy. Welcome back!

Hooray!!! As someone about to embark on an educational KZbin channel, I have my inspirations on YT, Anton Petrov, Dr. Becky, Sabine Hossenfelder, Simon Whistler, etc, and yourself. The work you did for the Apollo Chronicles brought a youthful perspective of a young historian, rather than just interviews with aging astronauts and engineers (yes, they are heroes, but having additional perspective is important!). Keep up the great work!
