Beautiful work, it's alarming how many "industry professionals" within municipalities and utility companies will replace these old fixtures with LED streetlights and credit the brighter results to LED technology without considering the worn conditions of the previous fixtures.

Jamie Crisp how did it catch fire.
@jamiecrisp50843 жыл бұрын
@@TexasRailfan2008 Hello it caught fire by an internal short in the ballast burning a good bit of the wiring inside no damage to the external housing the ballast in it was the original ballast made by cooper it was wired for 208 volts and had to be rewired from the photocell to the terminal block i have a Universal brand ballast in it now the original ballast is discontinued. I also have other fixtures that may interest you like { GE HLXs, M1000s, and M400s, } Magnaray fluorescent sign lights and Hubbell Magnuliters.

This light was used by San Francisco's DOT, and later salvaged and used as a parking lot light for a restaurant, to which was being renovated and gutted, so I inquired about and got it from the owner.

Why wouldn’t you retrofit to LED?
@incandianeon2 жыл бұрын
Because the purpose of this video was to restore, meaning bringing back this luminaire to its accurate original self when it left the factory. Videos stripping a light fixture to LED are aplenty and have their place on KZbin, but I find converting something old to LEDs rather uninspiring and likely will never go that route.
@loudspeakertestsmorebyaida38042 жыл бұрын
@@incandianeon Yeah. I wouldn’t retrofit one of these vintage fixtures either. I like these lights as a collector’s item. I just wouldn’t use mercury vapor for typical applications anymore, but they are definitely worth keeping as a collection. They are cool lights and were a great light source at the time.
@EdmontonRails2 жыл бұрын
Because that would be a downgrade.
@loudspeakertestsmorebyaida38042 жыл бұрын
@@EdmontonRails Yeah, I like the vintage light better. LED causes light spillage and glare.
