I was just there yesterday myself - and indeed this is an amazing place and experience !~ A national treasure .. you will be blown away and overwhelmed. Most importantly - you will be inspired.

Sweet room/s! I had 90% of those synths at one point or another over the past 37 years, this brings back a lot of memories .. thanks 👍

Damn, that must have been a dream.

once upon a synth Well the dream back in the day was the Fairlight or Synclavier II, and now I have a Fairlight on my phone lol 😁 Yeah I could kick myself for selling/giving away all those old synths, but at the time/s it kinda felt good to be rid of all the old analog technology and embracing the new affordable digital technology lol 😁

Designed by Bob Moog... Yes, if you ever get the chance, I'd love to see it. I have one I bought in a pawn shop for $100 back in the late 80's. Its just breathtaking

The Universal Synthesizer System is an guitar synth that Tom Oberheim designed. That Maestro phase shifter is also an Oberheim design, if I'm not mistaken.

@onceuponasynth7 жыл бұрын
Have fun! If you have limited time I recommend starting in the back room which has most of the rare synths. I spent too much time in the front room and then rushed in the back so I wish I had started in the back first.

The Russian synth is the Aelita. It's basically their Minimoog or one of them but the Aelita is a great sounding synth. Built like a tank too! I had one and wish I hadn't sold it. If you find one in great condition buy it-you won't be disappointed in the sound at all. I've owned Moogs and still have my Minimoog and I can tell you the Aelita sounded nearly as good-almost identical. And it does a few little cool things the Mini doesn't. The Crumar Spirit is another good sounding synth too that Bob had a hand in also..
@onceuponasynth6 жыл бұрын
awesome, thanks for the info. I'll be keeping an open eye on ebay for one of these. I imagine they're probably quite rare in north america.

The Russian synth is the Altavox Aelita, it was an attempt at a minimoog clone. Here's a whole EP a guy did using only that synth: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqHHaJ2GfLGVeas

Tubes? Do you mean that transparent synth? That's a Gleeman Pentaphonic, those are just clear knobs. I believe the only tube synth in that room is the metasonix which was on the desk.

Lol, synth museum... Some gearslutz members have collection twice as big or even more.
@NeilWall5 жыл бұрын
@HatredPrime True - but the beauty of this is that it's available to everyone. MESS in Melbourne is similar, and offers opportunities to me that I'd never be able to afford if I had to acquire the collection myself. A mate of mine with a quite impressive synth collection loves visiting MESS despite his own opportunities. It's great opportunity to learn and have people on hand bringing valuable advice and skills to the experience.
