I used to have a Bristol crawler with a MF backactor fitted to it . All those levers really needed two pairs of hands to operate them .With plenty of use I got reasonably good and later moved on to a 5 ton excavator with two stick controls . That was a dream to drive when compared with the MF machine , I enjoy your videos ,keep them coming .

Thanks for the video Dan I think I'd be hopeless at those controls. Have a hard enough time going from an excavator to a backhoe even with joysticks lol.

Dan thats farming you learn new things on the job. We are self taught and pick things up as we go. The digger is running okay and once you get her the way you want her she will be a wee topper. Great video Dan

Great to see Dan. I remember when growing up, my father using an old Whitlock to knock down an old house next to the house we lived in, dad still lives in that house. Main reason at the time was to stop my brother and I playing on the old house. He did in a new water main two hundred yards long down the drive too. That had similar controls them they went to an old Ford 550 I think it was but not sure, again same controls. Good old days.

Just talking about your machine . Yours was better than the 50b your levers are better as longer . I remember the machine I drove had really tinny stubby levers . Love the collection and videos . Looking forward to the swinger . Video . I went from a Hymac to a proclain 60 . It’s nice to hear the engine as back the day every bit of plant had it’s own character.

Not easy if you have not driven one before. I learnt on an MF 220 on the back of a 203 when I was about 13. The first time I drove a JCB with x levers I felt foolish and even more so the first time I had ago with ISO controls. I would say I was told by the old boys on the farm to start at the low end of the ditch. Good to see it working.

Hi Dan you want to use your front bucket as a stabiliser especially digging side on as you were it prevents the digger from tilting and usually makes the feet slide sideways instead, and keeping it more stable. The rear feet alone are good for straight on digging but still benefits from using the front bucket as a prop especially if you hit really stony ground. Love the machine and appears to work perfect and the long bucket we call a grading bucket in construction despite it being used for just about everything you can think of , its purpose was to grade soil or aggregate.

Saves Flipping the seat over and moving the tractor forward though 😊 bit of a time saver by the looks of it. Might have to buy one of these. Very handy!

Try giving the engine a few more revs to make the pumps work easier for better control on the levers

It has a serial number plate but the model number section is left blank so I don't know I'm afraid.

The mf 40 and the levers 2 for Jack's , and four for the back hoe. Controls , you use two levers of hand to operate , but you need the pressure on the hydraulics so you need at least 1\2 throttle I have had two mf 205 and a 40 , and a later 50 b all with the same controls , also the same controls on a power fab mini walking digger , there is a lot of wear in your 40 digger , which makes life hard work , work with 1\2 throttle and use two levers at a time to dig , and in time you will work well . To day I have a hymac 370 , and a Whitlock 105 the 105 has been modified to the same control patten as the mf 40 , so it's the same as my power fab 125 w ,

Takes a while to get your hand in and its why some regular digger drivers are really worth having in to do a job, as their skill and efficiency are cost effective, if you actually value your own time. A multitasker like Dan has my admiration as he can put his hand to most things on the farm.
