Well Ben your XL2 is set up at 3300 idle and revs out at 10,450 rpm. Spec is 10-11,000. That’s with the muffler mod. Typing it on here so I don’t forget what it’s at.

The amount of giggles that old xxxv gets when I pull it out at camp to cut firewood is hilarious. At the moment I'm rebuilding a 81xxv with a carb off a wild thing and pod filter, I'm also in the process of removing the epa off a 2400 woodmaster (last xxv made) which is heavily restricted just does not sound the same it has a smaller carb and a restricted exhaust

Awesome! Ya Years ago we were on an ridibg an 8 wheeled Argo on a 2 day trip. My buddy had this old top handle Poulan and I was recording him cutting with it. I was saying something about “micro” and years later I wondered what I was talking about but then when I got into old saws I seen the name “Micro XXV” lol So I haven’t really done much cutting with one since then but that little Yellow Mastercraft I have is a 2350 model with the 38cc engine and it really rips!

Funny we have both been fiddling around with the little Homelites lately. My buddy Mr. C gave me a small pile of them recently and my buddy Randy just gave me a 240. Most of these have been in recent video's. My Super EZ auto will be in a new video soon, as I just got it running. I really like the full wrap bar, and it seems to have good power too. For years I only had a couple of the small Homelites, and gave them to my boys. They don't use them anymore, and donated them back in the pile. So far the little Homelites that I have running, perform pretty darn good. Fun with old saws !

Been busy lately so I’m not up to date on those videos but I will be checking them out soon. Ya those little saws are fun to run for sure. Very handy while i’m on my travels on the side by side (sxs) for clearing trail. I put a new gas cap on one of my little top Handle Poulans and it changed the way I think of that saw. It leaked out the cap before so I didn’t want to bring it with me as it would leak all over my gear. Some think they not worth rebuilding but nobody makes a tiny gas powered saw like that anymore other than the Chinese knock offs but even those are heavier than the little Poulan XXV or Homelite XL’s. I will check out the vid on that 240. I had one dropped off at my doorstep and wanting to get it going.

The Poulan xxv's seem to have had a lot of quality control issues. Some of mine have had little use, and are unreliable, but others have given good service. I think that they made a pro version of these saws, but have never seen one, but I have received comments about how good they were. Some of these were built down to a price, and had bushings in the clutch drum, which would make all kinds of noise after a half hour of use. I replaced the clutch assemblies that had a needle bearing in them, which solved the problem, and the clutches were actually larger also. My Mac Mini Mac's are a lot better saw though, and that's what I use most. It will be interesting to see how the little Homelites work out when I get them in the wood.@@Indeewoods

Yes I was talking to the main salesman for the company and I think hecwas saying in order to be competative they had to make changes to these saws. It’s always fun when you can do little upgrades to make something reliable that originally wasn’t.

@@ryanhubble9157 I looked it up on CCC and your Husqvarna 23 Compact is actually a rebadged Poulan Pro 180. The 2300 CVA was anti vibe in both handles the Husky 23 had no antivibe. The Poulan Pro 190 seems to have same specs at the 180 but maybe came with a longer bar. The Husqvarna had it’s own unique ribbed handle as well.

I want a top handle saw after this video. Should i buy a saw with a chain brake? Safer?
@Indeewoods2 жыл бұрын
Well I can’t say what you should and shouldn’t do but some feel the chain brake make operators careless. There are some saws line the Poukan 2350 CVA that came with antivibe and a chain brake but the safety features adds quite a bit of noticable weight.
@jonnis2402 жыл бұрын
I have a question i always wanted to ask. I see people take out the pull cord when they stop the saw. Why? 🙂
@em47032 жыл бұрын
It's the proper way to shut off old school saws and modern Echos. Its because the "claws" that engage the pull start assembly are on the flywheel itself, so when the rpm is low enough, like the last second when the engine is shutting down, they will engage the rope starter because there's not enough centrifugal force keeping the claws disengaged and their spring will bring them in, pulling on the cord a bit and over time it can break the handle off. This is not an issue with modern Stihl and Husqvarnas as the claws are inside the side cover itself, in the cord pulley, and only engage when manually pulling the handle.
@Indeewoods2 жыл бұрын
@E M said it perfectly.

Great explanation. To add to that it used to sometimes snap the end off the crankshaft on high compression motors I’ve heard.

@williambray41342 жыл бұрын
I dunno about everyone needing a top handle chainsaw. Not everyone has the common sense to know that even top handles have two handles for a reason.
@Indeewoods2 жыл бұрын
You mean two triggers?
@williambray41342 жыл бұрын
Nope, handles. There's two handles because they're designed to be used with two hands. This is also the reason currently manufactured top handle are significantly more expensive. It's to deter people from buying them as it's tempting to use them one handed because they're center balanced.
