Thanks for watching. It pretty obvious that this leaf blower is big but its also really heavy. The other problem is that it won't start. The diagnosis was easy but the repair was very labor intensive. I can see why this blower is in great condition, it wasn't used that much.

This blower looks very similar to my Paramount blower. I bought it brand new from Builder Square for $25 when they were closing up shop here in Illinois back in the very early 1990's. I still have it and use it every weekend with no issues.

I got one like that last year. It was found in a barn covered in cob webs and dirt. Just needed a pull cord, fuel lines, and a good carb cleaning. Still runs great

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I bought the exact same model back in 1997 in America. It has been running fine until last year when it decided to start playing up. I had a quick look and after seeing so many screws that needed removing looked for the manual. Of course I cant find it but dont need it now having seen your KZbin vlog. Excellent work. Great Video, I have the exact blower same Weedeater Green version of that blower that I bought years ago, and I'm sure the fuel line broke off and fell into the tank which caused it to no longer start. Thanks to your video, I'm going to go dig it out of the garage and fix it so I can start using it again. It's a great little machine, but yes, very heavy. I don't have much area to blow off, so it's fine for residential use. Keep up the great work!

I still have my grandpas craftsman branded one somewhere. I belive its from 1994. I remember using it as a little kid all the time, and also remember doing the same repair as you did to this one in my high school shop class. Makes me want to go dig it out now. They are heavy but not terrible. If I could use it all day when I was 10 or 12, then it shouldn't be a problem for too many..lol

I got mine apart today. The gas line was broken so I replaced it and took off the screw limiter for adjusting it. It started right up and idled but bogged when opening the throttle and I could not adjust out of it.. So I have the carb apart and new kit will be here next week. Thanks again for the video. That is a good solid (heavy) machine. One Allen wrench is used on all the screws. I love it!.........Cheers, Jim

1978 to 1982 I used a back pack blower working for my girlfriends family lawn care business at the time in the Yonkers NY area. Haven't used one since but I just received an EGO 530 to move forward with adding battery operated equipment to the home. Has the 2.5 ah battery which from the reviews is not bad at a total tool weight of around 6 pounds. Looks from the wind outside tonight I will get a chance to try it out this week once it dries up a bit. Also looking forward to blowing light snow off the cars in the wintertime. Being this is a cool collectors piece if in my possession I would mount it on the wall in a case as something from the past. Nice detailed work on the carburetor.

I wish I knew about your channel 3 years ago. I had an old yard machine MTD week wacker that quit starting. A puff of smoke came out of the exhaust and quit starting. Still had compression, spark plug was clean. We did what normal people would do when something doesn’t work, throw it away. 😂

We also had another one in the shed, but that had a fuel leak, and didn’t want to bother with gas since I have a disability where I can’t smell (pre-Covid)

Great video. Hoping to restore mine. I actually put a new carb on it and it ran. Then I messed up by turning the adjustment screws and now I can find the right spot to get it started again.

Yes its an issue. Try turning the screw all the way in and then back it out ain't 1.5 turns. Then add turns till it starts. Just remember with every failed attempt to start it, the engine will be flooded.

Subscribed. I came upon your video on this model blower as I was searching for info on the 1980's Sears Craftsman 32cc air blower that was handed down to me by my late Dad. My air blower is in a state pretty much like yours as far as not wanting to run, so the info you gave about the carb breakdown is invaluable to me. Yours looks to be a diecast metal housing where my Dad's Craftsman looks exactly the same, but with a plastic body. As to your question: a few weeks ago, I lugged my 120 volt ac Black and Decker air blower onto the roof of the house so I can clear the fallen leaves off the roof. Lugging around over 100 feet of extension cords is not fun and the old Craftsman would have come in handy! All the best!

Home Garage I lugged one of these around for years earning my first few paychecks. It’s now sitting abandoned in Dad’s garage. Did you ever try the backpack mod? Would be very interested in trying that myself after a good rebuild.

Regarding quality of build. I have many items that I purchased in America back in the 90s and brought over to the UK with me. Of these, three stand out head and shoulders above modern tools. My leaf blower vac (see above), an Earthquake auger and a John Deere 48" side discharge lawn tractor. All of these are almost still as new and now I have found the fault in the blower (perished fuel line), all start first time on the button. I challenge anyone to buy similar products today and still have them working as new 25 years later. They don't make tools like they used to.

I think mine is an 87 bought when home depot opened in Jacksonville, Fl still works replace card. Cheaper than cleaning it, last week it suddenly got loud, had to disassemble the motor to remove muffler, large hole looks like it had a plug in it . Cut a round disc and welded it in place, works great.

If that's what I had, that's what I'd be using. It's a site lighter than the wheeled job with the 8-horse I/C Briggs on it and at least you could swap arms unlike a backpack. My 85 Stihl is somewhat heavy and I don't know how much exactly but it's heavier duty than a new 86. It also has a new rubber lined housing for the vacuum setup and a small steel shredder on the end of the impeller of which I got a spare shredder and impeller because you just never know............ Seems like yours is still running a little rich but it might be just my ears too. Thanks and good fix and BLESSINGS!

I love my blower I got it free it’s a dark green color weed eater and it’s my first one other than my new br700x stihl back pack blower it’s good for blowing off mower decks the weight isn’t bad and doesn’t bother me for the 15 minuets I use it

Hi Guys, very interesting points of views on this blower. I got mine in 1999 23 years ago, use it regularly, changed air filter once due not getting enough air to run at full revs. The issue of weight never crossed my mind, a local mover shop said to me probable 20 years ago, That thing won't last, well it has given great service hasn't miss a beat, whereas the line trimmer he sold my gave up the ghost a few years ago.

I don't know if I'd use it or not,I'd have to try it. Ryobis aluminium casting plant is based in the U.S. for all of their power tools & they also cast aluminium parts for their own petrol equipment as well as for various other companies including certain car manufacturers which are based in Japan who outsource their casting work to them. So,there's a very good chance that the Weedeater blower has a Ryobi made engine in it,I'm pretty sure that the Walbro products are cast by them too !

/this is the size of an older Craftsman branded blower I got free.... no fuel bulb nor return line for fuel, but in very good shape. And heavy (maybe 12 lbs). (My small Hitachi runs fine and blows really hard and is very light in 1 hand). A heavy blower is too much work for most folks ... Update 9/9 : I could start it with a spray of carb cleaner in the throat and so put a new plug in and disassembled the shell/housing to look into the fuel tank and carb: both very clean and the small fuel tube was dissolved/broken in the tank with a very clean filter left... I replaced the small line and noted no second line to return fuel to the tank. Will put oil/plain gas into the tank and crank it tomorrow. Looks like the Mike Jones Rule : " Assume it is a simple or stupid mistake... not something complicated " (after a smart system programmer told us about solving mainframe computer puzzlement).

great video, although I have a few questions. 1. Have a similar blower - weed eater GBI 22v - would like to get new carburetor, but can't find replacement. Most have 2 ports for gas line and return on the carb, but like yours, mine only has 1 gas inlet. 2. Why/When do you turn the throttle idle screw vs the mixture screw? 3. will try replacing the diaphragm first as it has a few wrinkles in it.

Turning the idle screw will make up for a carb that maybe isn't able to work at a full rpm range of a couple hundred to several thousand. You also have to adjust the idle when adding fuel to the engine when adjusting the carb. The wrinkles in the diaphragm can hinder its movement. Slight wrinkling is okay but this one had too much.

I have a BIG one labelled Craftsman to get running well, but it is too heavy for 1 handed use. I have a small and strong and light Hitachi that is rated top-notch and I see why. Just use correct fuel and store it under a house over winter AFTER the last bit of fuel is dumped/pumped/burned out with StaBil or similar additive in the fuel

I was wondering why you did not replace that fuel filter.It looked mangy. Also, to get it to go up to speed, you need to look at the exhaust port. Using carbon based oils ( instead of pure synthetic) can carbon up the port and close it down a bit to cause it to run slower. Thanks for this video. I just got one just like it in to repair and needed to see how to remove the housing to get at the carb...Cheers, Jim Jakosh

Sweet fix! Love this stuff. My Craftsman self-propelled mower, somehow got oil in the combustion chamber after storage. couldn't pull the cord until I pulled the spark plug and then tried to get all the oil out. That's where I'm at with it. What the heck would cause that and what fixes it?

Thank you for the comment I appreciate it . Have you checked the oil level? Is it over maximum? Was there still gas in the tank when it was put up? Either the gas leaked past the carb and filled the crankcase with gas. Then the oil gas will leak past the rings and into the combustion chamber. Drain the oil and replace it. Next put about quarter tank of gas in the tank and see if after a few days of the gas disappears and the oil level magically increases.

Hi excellent video which helped me dismantle Weedeater SV22 Blower from 1980s and clean up carb. I still have a problem with engine firing up and stalling - suspect the exhaust is clogged somewhere. I can find no further info on dismantling this (or removing the muffler box) or even where exactly the spark arrestor is or what it looks like (or even if there is one!). You mentioned this at the end of your video (and again in these posts). Did you ever get round to making a video of the exhaust system or where a diagram can be found? Any advice would be welcomed - thanks from Scotland!!

Thanks for the comment I appreciate it. Off camera I checked the spark arrestor and found out it doesn't have one. Mu exhaust port was clear so I put it back together. I would remove the muffler and check the port. In the end I just readjusted the carb and it runs fine. I'll have a video of the readjustment soon.

It’s warm weather now and I tried to start it and it doesn’t start unless I pour gas in the carburetor then it dies. When I took the top cover off I saw the filter had fallen apart and some may have went into the carburetor. I don’t know if it’s worth fixing or not. Like you said. It’s very heavy. Maybe I’ll try a new hose a fuel filter.

I pulled the fuel line out of the tank and it crumbled in my fingers. Put a new line in and reassembled. Poured some gas in the carburetor and it started and died. Wouldn’t run on its own. Decided to take it apart and see what the problem is before running over it with my pickup truck and found the fuel line was squeezed between the housings. Fixed that and reassembled, poured gas in the carburetor to prime it and it fired up and run great for about five minutes at different speeds. Best it’s run in years. I’ll wait until tomorrow and see if it starts without priming.

sure, it's more than likely a carb and fuel issue, You can either try adjusting the carb, or getting a new one.

Looks exactly like my Craftsman one and it has the 32CC engine, sounds exactly the same. It even looks the exact same on the inside! Mine does not have the green top but it is completely black like the bottom of the blower and is a Craftsman branded one. I practically have the same one just a different color and brand. Who makes the 32CC engines on these? Mine worked fine yesterday when I used my Poulan blower, but the Craftsman doesn't want to start now and the cylinder has a bunch of gas and oil in it. The piece on the end of the spark plug is stuck in the spark plug boot. It has no spark now and I have to get the old end of the spark plug out and replace it for it to run again. I know exactly what you mean by these things are heavy, I picked up my Poulan, and then the Craftsman, what a difference!

@@HomeGaragechannel I have the same BV180 and last year it required partial choke to keep running. I picked up a carburetor kit for it today and also replaced the fuel line. It started right up but regardless of the high speed jet setting, it's still stalling for lack of fuel. Does the new inlet needle need adjustment to allow more fuel flow? @@HomeGaragechannel I got my blower to idle faster by cleaning carbon out of exhaust port. Half of the port was plugged. Good idea to use a shoulder harness to alleviate weight. This is a well over built blower that will outlast today's cheaper/lighter Stihl blowers that I have serviced.

Yeah it is the same but no primer bulb. It is green an it is good wight for the size. I picked it up for $60 this year during the summer with this covid-19.

Typically, I would be willing to sacrifice some added weight for extra power but, given the age of this blower, I doubt it produces enough power to justify the extra weight compared to most blowers built in the last 15 years or so. They just didn’t have the technology back then to get as much power from an engine of that size that they could today. That said, its a cool old machine that you never see anymore, so I wouldn’t have passed it up on the curb.

I believe you are correct, this is a like a 500 cubic inch engine back in the day, great torque but bad fuel economy.

Well people from back in the good ole days used to be build stronger to be able to carry something that heavy around. But now days everyone is weak and can only hold a cell phone and get tired of lifting 2lbs. Ide lug that thing around but only cause its hot outside and ide use it as a portable gas powered fan lol.

I own that same blower. I replaced the fuel line, cleaned the carburetor, fuel tank and fuel filter. It still won't start or keep running sometimes. What else can I do? The diaphragms are ok.

Thank you Brian Mott for the comment I appreciate. Have tried doing a compression test on it? If the compression test shows kinda low numbers then that could explain why its having its issues.

@@brianmott728 its usually located at the outlet of the muffler. It could but it would have to be extremely clogged to keep the engine from starting.

Clean the spark arrestor and wire brush and re-gap the spark plug. Good to go. ^_^

They may last longer in other places but I live in Seattle where it’s constantly cold and moist in the air so that may be a contributing factor. But the nearly 40 year old weed eater has held up fine, so I think this electric stuff needs vast improvement if it’s going to be a viable alternative in the future.
