Thanks for being persistent despite the weather. Appreciate that you're showing the usefulness of this inexpensive set of gear. Yes, with good techniques, it does work well. Thumbs up, my friend.

Great video Blackie. I have to watch these cooking videos while I am eating lunch or dinner because I get hungry just thinking about a good meal cooked over the open fire. You just got to love the carbon steel skillet in the vintage BSA kit! I know I love mine. They cook great and they just have that classic look once they are seasoned. It's like they carry the spirit of every delicious meal they ever cooked and keep getting better with time:)

Good video.... your meal is coming along... I know this is a demo but back in the day we had to learn to cook in any weather condition or go hungury... of course if the storm was too hard we might have reverted to jerky and hardtack.. lol I know William's knife is real nice but we would have used our pocket knives. The scande grind is not ideal for slicing kitchen work. I can't remember ever using a cutting board in the field. We learned to just cut things up in our hands... any blood from our finger just added flavor. lol Once we got weavels in our bread mix... we just cooked them up with the bread. Our Bannock had a unique flavor that trip. lol We did not generally carry potatoes and onions, etc with us because of the weight. There were plenty of wild foods and water around us in KY. So what did we usually carry? Well about a pound of supplies a day. -Jerky , flour, corn meal, salt, pepper, cinnamon, garlic powder, lard, baking powder, soda, nuts, coffee, etc. we're typical carry items. (sometimes eggs) Veggies and fruit were growing all around us. Usually it was me and Judy so we could divide uo the load. Once we brought a live chicken but she did not seem to enjoy the trip... maybe she knew how it would end. lol For me these videos seem really simple but I was raised in a different world. We grew up knowing these things. The kids today live in different world. You take a meal out of the freezer put it in the microwave and push a button. Bingo! Dinner is done. My grandparents had just moved to Cincinnati back in the 40s and they had major culture shock. The first time my grandmother tried to light her new gas stove she nearly blew up the house. She put the bread in the oven and turned on the gas... nothing happened. She opened the bottom drawer where she thought the fire would be and lit a match to see. Well...BANG...was the result. The oven door came down and hit granny in the head. The cornbread flew out and all over the floor and Granny. Granny lost her eyebrows. She was ready to go right back to hills of Virginia the same day she arrived. Taking today's kids and putting them in the woods would result in the same sort of thing. They might even burn down the woods. lol So your videos are a good thing. Hopefully they will teach and inspire those who watch them. Blessings to you.... later...

my granny had a simular happening with a gas heater..it was very cold and lots of wet..ice had formed on everything and the heater had only a tiny little flame..the repair guy was called..and as granny had hiked her dress up and back up to the heater to warm her backside..the guy out side found the problem and ..WHOOOSH!!!!..hot tushy!!..i can still see granny flapping around the room like a upset goose..

Blackie, is that boy scout mess kit made of steel? Looks to have taken to a good seasoning. I was trying to see if you had a video where you presented that particular miss kit. Thank you!!
