Thats a great tip. I did this job about 10 years ago on a 67 I had. I had to.take the locks out of the car and send them out in the mail. Your 68 looks great. Its a deluxe model. Yours has the brake warning light above the radio. You notice yours has the wrap on the steering wheel. Almost every original car I have bought has the wrap. Im wondering if it was a factory add on.
@SladesVWBeetle3 жыл бұрын
Thanks my friend! I didn’t know mine was the deluxe model! You know more than me about this. It has the factory pop out windows, and of course the sunroof. If there’s anything else you can tell me that makes it special please do. That steering wheel wrap was really big in the 70s. I don’t think they put them on at the dealer?

@superbear6173 жыл бұрын
Interesting!! So simple to remove the handle!! Good to know!! The matching locks also mean the ignition switch is original to the car, too! I had to replace an ignition switch on my (non VW) car once, and it was a hassle having the door key different from the ignition key. Anyway, good luck with the build!
@SladesVWBeetle3 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for taking the time to comment! I was really fortunate that no one change the handles. I like being able to have one key. It makes it so convenient. Changing an ignition switch especially without having the key can be a nightmare!

Thanks for sharing. My keys go into my door locks, but won’t fully turn to unlock, so I make a point to either never lock, or just leave the windows open. This video will help me get them off the door properly to repair the issue.
@SladesVWBeetle3 жыл бұрын
Let me ask a question my friend, is it easy to pull the button up-and-down? I would try pulling the handle, and lubricating the mechanism inside the door, and also the lock. Maybe that’s all it needs.
@JMKGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@SladesVWBeetle it’s a ‘66, so there is no lock specific button... the inside door handle pushes down to lock, then unlocks as you lift up to open the door. That works nicely on both, and the door keys will also lock the car, but they won’t turn the other direction to unlock 🤷🏼♂️
@SladesVWBeetle3 жыл бұрын
