I used Jute for sound deadening the floors. I had solid floors to work with...zero rust, no leaky spots. And a TMI carpet kit over that. TMI seat covers and it feels like a newish car. Luckily the headliner was still in great shape...I don't believe I could have done a good job on that.

Yes I would like to see what to do there. Almost every bug I had or worked on even if it was super clean and rust free had that one fender bolt that rusted up and broke off. I didn’t know if that foam was a factory thing or not. I had one the a guy must of bought a case of foam spray and went crazy. This car was rust beyond belief.
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 2 жыл бұрын
Yes the foam was put in by the factory. I believe in 72 and up is when it got worse. But I’m going to remove mine anyhow just to show what to do. Fender bolts often break off, or the nuts end up rusting and spinning. I have to weld some new ones in place which I will do a short video on. I always use anti-seize when I’m putting all the bolts on. Thank you so much for being here.

Slade, would it benefit to cut the strips longer so that they fill the dips in the pan better? Stick on one end and roll into each of the lower areas one by one as you move backwards. Your 68 doesn't have the bad death foam like the later cars do. The foam in your 68 is better than, what was used in the later cars. Look it up. Its your car either way.

Yes I believe the scary stuff started in 72 or 73? I can’t remember. I’m going to go ahead and do the video just to help people out. And I might as well go ahead and show them the results of what you can use. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving my friend

I have been tempted to use the roofing stuff in the past, but I have read many places that they will make the interior smell really strong of hot tar. Especially on a hot day. Has this not been a problem for you?

I’ll be very honest with you Mike, I have heard other people say the same thing. And then the other 50% say they didn’t smell anything. Me personally, I have never had any odor from it.

Do you ever try and clean up the carpet glue and old carpet fuzz before laying this stuff down? Or a general clean did get dirt and dust off?
@SladesVWBeetle

Honestly I'll be doing that soon on an upcoming video. If its really bad, I would try and get the heavy stuff off. I sanded one time, but of course had to rattle can the area.

Wouldn't it be advantageous to run the 2nd layer opposite the first. Longways first then along the short. You would be pretty much assured you got at least one layer in every single spot.

No but I will be doing that soon. They were redoing some things down at that salvage yard. That will be this weeks video of being there. And I had to wait, it’s down by a river and it was extremely cold over the winter. In about 30 days hopefully we will be into spring here. He’s going to allow me to demonstrate it on one of the cars down there.
