Last week I used naval jelly, then used aluminum window screen and about 100$ worth of JB Weld and salvaged some partially not connected flooring. Then I applied the Red Gaurd waterproof membrane and lastly the black bed liner pudding-like stuff application. It worked like a charm. About 200$ in total. I then used half inch thick felt flooring underlayment and then the carpet squares with the rubberized backing. Underneath the car doesn't look so magnificent, but you can spill a drink on the floor and not a drop is exiting the car. I have some old lady-bug floor mats that add a touch of artsy fun to the floor. All this was done on my '69 Yukon Yellow bug. I call her 'CAR' = Same color and year as on the Cover of Abbey Road album. She got tired of the Beatles kicking her to the curb that she decided to move into Bug Garden with the other 7 classics I have scattered throughout the yard as ornamentation.

I wish my tarboards came off that easy…took hours of chipping away at them. 😖. Now to do a partial pan replacement (battery area) some wire wheel action, then paint. The sound deadening will go in later during reassembly. Great Video!

The temperature really changes how hard or easy it is to remove tar board. There is a sweetspot where they come off easy....I forget if that's cold weather, I think it could be, this dry ice Was a great idea, I used a fire extinguisher, more messy!

Opening up the tunnel for access to the clutch cable is actually a smart thing to do for the average VW owner. Anyone who has fiddled with installing the pedal assembly wishes they had a way to grab that cable from the other side of the tunnel. It wouldn't make sense for a show car or a 100% resto, but the rest of us can use it. Nice video, btw.

Looking great Bud. Floor pan is in really good shape. My tunnel is also notched from a previous owner. Thank you for sharing the update on your progress, and tips on money saving. Ive seen people throw floor pans in, then use roof tar to smear over the patches to keep out the weather. Why throw away money if you don’t need too. Budget Builds can be just as nice as a full restoration project, my opinion. Sending the best for you and Heather. Have a great day. Looking forward to next update

Thank you my friend! The super beetle that I did, my last project. It only had some holes of course in the battery tray. So I replace that rear section. I don’t believe in ripping the body off, unless you have to. I have some rot at the backend, That I dread doing. But I guess it could be worse. Lol I hope that you’re having a wonderful day, and the upcoming weekend goes very well for you.
