Max Bacon (01/03/1906 -- 03/12/1969) was the drummer for Bert Ambrose and His Orchestra. He was also in a few other bands such as those of Ronnie Munro and Arthur Lally. One of the best drummers of his era, he even wrote a book on the subject, 'Max On Swing,' in 1934. He was noted for his dry wit between and during songs and developed this into a successful comedy act of his own, releasing a number of solo comedy novelty records in the mid to late 30s as well as appearing on many popular radio shows such as Workers' Playtime. Later he got into films, appearing in a number of Arthur Askey films in the 1940s and later appearances on TV shows in the 1960s. He also played the bandleader in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Despite being born in Britain his comedy style was to play up his European Jewish roots with a typical Yiddish accent
