I love the backstories to these types of songs! All of the Pixies songs are permanently etched into my memory. It's fun to get insight into how they were created.

One of the greatest modern artists to stand on stage with a guitar. So raw and thoughtful. Have loved Pixies almost as long as RHCP.

I just want to know one thing... Who writes the guitar lines, Frank or Joey?
@andeegreen8 ай бұрын
@@markdog912a bit of both I’d imagine! Frank has the overall ideas and Joey brings them to fruition with his own style

wait, but how does he relate the bending with the choid progression he arrange???
@jdoe276 жыл бұрын
I too would like to know this
@manuelsabin5 жыл бұрын
Oh, I think he was trying to explain that in the vid. He seems to mostly be going for dissonance and so for the A chord picks the note G to bend to since that would clash pretty bad with the C# in the A chord (the C# and the G would form a nasty tritone, this is essentially making the A chord an A7 chord), for the C chord he chooses B to bend to which would clash pretty hard with the C note since it's only a half step away (this would kinda make the C a Cmaj7 chord), and then he says for the D chord he just bends to a D to give us some grounding and a break from all the dissonance As for the bending itself, Joey Santiago seems to do this trick a lot where he has one note he's aiming for, say G, so he hits that note on the B string while also hitting the G string on a note a whole step below the note he's aiming for (in this example he'd be hitting F on the G string) and then bends the lower note up to match the higher note. The end effect is you get the G note you wanted but, as it's ringing out, there's a shitload of dissonance that F has to crawl through as it clashes with the G it's being pushed towards A really neat example of this is on their song Hey! where he does this trick three times real slowly, making the lower note really strain and struggle to match the top note and then does it really fast a few times before the whole music hits a hard stop with Thompson's "Huh!" The amount of tension in that little part is ridiculous
